Ohtani opens up a whole new market for them and is the most popular person in Japan. $70MM a year is crazy money, but you can bet that someone that doesn't know a thing about baseball did a deep dive analysis to ascertain the ROI of this contract.
that's exactly what I was thinking. How much money is he making back for the dodgers in swag

He already is hurt, he’s just had his second Tommy John surgery in 5 years. There’s no guarantee he’ll be an effective pitcher, or even pitch again.

Any man should be able to make as much money as possible, as long as he’s not breaking any laws. He’ll probably net 350-400 Million once taxes are done. God bless capitalism!

The Dodgers have said he will not pitch in 2024, only bat!

I read where the Dodger's opening day tickets will start around $350.... Now that number came from facebook, so I don't know how true that is.

Not surprised, and they will probably sell out. Imagine what Dodgers ticket prices will be in the playoffs and especially if they'd make the world series. There really isn't even a number you can put on Ohtani that he isn't worth IMO from a business standpoint.

Now does anyone wonder why it costs $150 a ticket to sit in the nosebleed section??????

It is actually financial irresponsibility to pay a person 700 million.. Come on men. Its baseball. Baseball. There are so many people in the world that need assistance with various forms of disability, misfortune or illness. And you commit this amount to 1 person. He will miss games, he will strikeout, he will have some success. But in the end, when you think about it , nobody but nobody is worth that type of money to play Baseball. His net worth is higher than some owners !! I am just disappointed in the direction that professional sports is taking. I do not give a rat's *** that the Astros don't have him, nor the Rangers. I don't give a rat's *** about any of them. Hell, they don't know me or care about me. But the lack of discipline to pay somebody that amount is insane. And he can't pitch for another year. And they don't have enough starting pitching to be real threats to win a World Series makes this baffling. He might pitch halfway in 2025. And will not be fulltime pitcher until 2026. Pulling for everybody except the Dodgers.

You are right. But relax. It’s called ‘the way it is’.

Apparently, he’s “only” making 2 million/year for the life of the contract. Once the contract expires he receives 68 million/year for another 10 years.

Pretty sure we all know about deferrals in baseball contracts, but holy crap lmao.

Seems foolish to me, but whatever. I’m just glad it’s not here.

If it was the old days yes, he would be the scariest batter batting 9th. Betting they wouldn’t be expecting him to bunt.

Interesting to see the revenue his jerseys bring in. MLB will be playing in Japan soon like the NFL does in Europe.
