Cannot wait to see that muley hard-horned. Preferably in the dirt.

My target buck is still cruising with a younger smaller frame buck, per my cell photos this evening…they’ve been runnin’ buddies since end of May. Figured that they’d be starting to split up now the velvets been off 3.5 weeks. Hope to see him this weekend but the wind may not be in my favor to set up.
Anybody else notice the bucks still sticking together ? Or splitting up??
weather is going to suck for the opener, but I’m going anyway…

We've still got our 3 bachelor buck groups sticking together in Dickens County. Nothing really amazing this year even though we haven't shot a buck the last 2 years.

Younger ones are still hanging, but this dude is running lonesome these days.

Nice and good luck! Seen a bit of activity on T/C this morning... looks like the boys are startin' to get tuned up.

How bad are the hogs in Childress and surrounding counties ? I noticed some do not have pens around feeders, just curious.

I'm in Hall and haven't seen a half dozen hogs on my place since the great freeze (watch me catch a sounder on cam tonight now that I say that ). Just as soon not see another one, ever. But even when I did have higher numbers of hogs, I never penned the feeders. Just never seemed to be that problematic. They never seemed to keep the deer off the feeders, and if anything, trained the deer to get to the feeders earlier. But again, I never wanna see another one.

There have also been some threads around where fellas are suggesting the hog populations are really down, but no one seems to really know why.

Used to hunt Childress about 8 years ago or so and they were pretty bad. They didn't just come running to the feeder every time it went off but there were plenty of them and some big ones too.

Hunted south of Childress a long time. Pigs were there, or they weren’t. Most in one season we trapped or shot at feeders was 45 animals. Oddly enough the season after we killed a mere six. I really do think that they migrate to follow resources, or have some sort of pattern of travel.
we penned some feeders, as the pigs learned to root up under the feeder legs to drop corn out of the funnels. Some of the stouter feeders we let unpenned so we could have pigs to shoot.

I’m now in hall county. Have not seen a pig in person, and in 14 consecutive months of running cell cams, have only night time pics of solo boars or small sounders in the dead of night.
