For those of you that think it like shooting a horse or the neighbors pony. The Zebra, being at the bottom of the food chain, are one if not the most difficult animals to get close to. They are pretty dang smart too.

I once had the same thoughts, until trying to get into bow range for a week in South Africa.

I'm with Gerhard, the "camo'd horse" is on the top of my list of trophies to take, right under the Greater Kudu.

I once knew a guy whose parents were missionaries in Africa. They had a zebra skin rug on the wall. It was beatiful.

Before hunting in RSA, I thought hunting a zebra was a joke. Then I tried to stalk one, hunt one from a blind and almost broke down and went on a rifle concession for one. NOWHERE close to hunting a horse. Zebras are a true challenge and make a great trophy and mount, rug etc. Definitely on the top of my wishlist if I ever go back

This wonderful animal was on the bottom side of my list when I made my first safari........ but........after being fortunate enought to shoot some very nice animals that first trip, kudu, blue wildebeest, impala, warthog, blesbok and bushbuck, I was looking for different challenges.
The second safari this past August gave me a nyala, common diuker and another impala and warthog. My last animal was a zebra and turns out to have been the hardest animal I have taken, including the very very elusive bushbuck.
One morning I saw a group of 14 zebra moving towards the water hole. They ended up stayinmg 40 yards out for the next hour or so. Every time one would get close the stalion would come charging in and run it off.
Later a small group came from the other side and when the stalion in this group would get close, here come the other, running he and his small group of females away. This went on for a total of over 2 hours!! Durring this time, several other animals, wart hop, impala, nyala came in, drank and left.
I remember ever shot at every animal I have taken on my first two trips to Africa, and the zebra is now on top of this list. Not only did they prove to be a very tricky qaury but to me, also the most beautiful. They make a stunning mount and I can not wait to get the cape back so I can mount this cridder!!

The make awesome mounts or flat skin rugs.

                  Gerhard.

                  P.S.

Why would someone want to hunt a Merino sheep??? lol
Great point Gerhard! I hate sheep also!!! But my wife thinks my hunt in JULY should include hunting a Zebra. She loves the rugs!!! I did have the same attitude but as I research it seems like they are serious critters. I guess living in Texas now I see soooo many horses you just relate the two automatically. Bonaro that critter is beautiful!!!

                    Good Luck in July.

I am also going back to South Africa at the end of July for a couple of weeks and will spend at least 5 days bow hunting. Getting withdrawal symptoms here in Dubai.

Remember to take a lot of pictures.

no trophy room is complete without a Zebra. To me they just say Africa.
Here is a video of one I shot this summer. They were mighty spooky.

                        Congratulations,

                        That's a great hunt.

I am going to take a guess and say that you killed a male???

They are normally smaller than the females.

The females are normally the better trophies because the do not fight like the males.

The males skin is normally scarred from bites and kicks.

                        Gerhard

The males are usually darker and the scars make for a better trophy Both my daughter & I have taken them with bow.... Mine ran 60 yards with a lung shot

they are very hard to hunt & Kill

Here is a photo from my 06' safari. We chased these Zebra for many miles up and down the mountains near Thabizimbi for several days. "Easy" would not be a word I would use to describe hunting these animals on foot.
