    Zebra

I was wondering how many here on TBH has harvested a Zebra?

A friend of mine send me these photos this morning.

I know what is on my hit list for next year.

Trying not to come across as "whatever you want to call it" here, but why would anyone want to shoot a zebra? Are they like our hogs here? Just curious. While I'm not sure I would pass up the opportunity if it was offered, I'm not sure that I would really want to either.

They are a game animal in Africa.

They are a very though hunt with bow or rifle.

The make awesome mounts or flat skin rugs.

      Gerhard.

      P.S.

Why would someone want to hunt a Merino sheep??? lol

Hey Gerhard, I have to hang with Skooter on this one..."what is the point"..I am sure that several TBH'ers have taken Zebra, and I do not deny them or you that right but what is the point dude? Try lassoing a few and breaking a string for your riding pleasure, camo clad man astride camo'ed horse, the lions and tigers will never see you coming, use them to bulldog rinos...better yet get you a few acres and start ranching rinos, then you can invite a couple of our top bullriders over to ride yours...go get you a few of those crazy big crocs, that will make a hell of a mount, they got big teeth...don't be offended, I have really enjoyed your posts from over there, you have such an amazing and diverse abundance of wildlife to observe and hunt, I know that a lot of folks on here envy you and your lifestyle, as I might, I just think that there are a lot better challenges out there....good luck Rick

                  Zebra is delicious!!

A hunter killed a zebra at a ranch my sons and I hunted. He didn't want any of the meat, only the hide. The ranch owner made some Fred Flintsone looking steaks from a hind quarter and boy O boy was the meat good. He grilled it with some of his home made BBQ sauce. My mouth waters just thinking about it. I'd take a zebra if ever given the chance.

I was thinking the same thing guys. WHY was the only thing I could think when I saw this. But, if the meat is edible, fire away!

Hey Robert! Give me a call. I'm on days today. Off tomorrow.

While a zebra may look like a domestic horse, that is where the similarity ends. They are one of the wariest plains game animals in Africa. Some people have taken several trips to Africa before they had a shot at a zebra with a bow. They will often come into a water hole but stay out of range and then leave without any apparant reason.

Good luck Gerhard with taking a zebra this year.

Gerhard, I'd LOVE to take a Zebra. I think the Grant's would be my first choice, but those Burchell's are cool-looking with the wide/narrow stripes.

I've hunted a ranch that has a few zebra, although they are off limits. You don't just walk up with a bucket of oats and pet them like a horse.

Thanx Ken for explaining that these are not quarter horses you can bring in with a feed bucket and put a halter on. If you think they are, you need to read some Capstick hunting books. "bites like a hyena, kicks and stomps worse than any horse or mule" They are listed in "Death in the Long Grass" as one of the underestimated killers of Africa. As are the Gemsbok and Sable

I initially thought that they would be an easy prey also. But after hunting them with my uncle. This was no the case. The rifle shot he took was over 300yds. The closest we could get!!!!

My Dad said the same....they wanted a zebra rug for the new house and specifically made sure that their Africa trip was to include a zebra. He told me they were some of the wariest animals they hunted those two weeks....much tougher hunt than the waterbuck and kudu everybody holds in such high regard.....
