My wife, my father and way too many of my friends.

I lost my father for 4 years in a depression hole, he sat on the couch and barely existed.

You are making the right choice, go the appt. Take the pills and look back at this post and realize that it was the first day of your new life.

After my wife started her medication, it was like I got my wife back again! She had gone a long time with her depression and the change was dramatic.

I can guarantee you that once you find the right medication, you will know. Energy will be back up, hobbies will seem fun again, family will have a whole new meaning.

And dont feel that it has beaten you, think of the Doctor as backup and reinforcement for your soul's army...you are just getting another regiment to fight the depression back.

Kick this depression's *** and leave it in the dust!!!

It only beats you when you allow it to eat you alive from the inside without trying to stop it.

You haven't even tried to fight with the right weapons!!

DO NOT DRINK or consume narcotics (self medicate) as that will only make the situation worse and cloud your sane mind ; possibly causing you to do something that you will regret and is not reversable

I applaud your honesty and seeking help . You obviously know you have a problem, otherwise you would have kept it to yourself and not shared with a bunch of strangers.

You will have to address the situation yourself and become humble ..... seek professional help as you can't fix the problem alone. A therapist will help you identify WHY you are depressed and provide you with necessary tools & coping skills leading you to the road of recovery .

PM me if you want and I'll call on my nickle

Take what you want from this reply and the posts above ...... I highly encourage you to recite the following Prayers and steps below on a daily basis, preferably many times per day. print a few copies and place near your bed, the bathroom mirror, in your car, on the refrigerator, at your work, etc....

Ever since I got sober on 12-27-87 , realizing GOD gave me a second chance, this is how I have survived along with the support of family and friends.

YOU CAN DO IT BROTHER !!!!!!

        SERENITY PRAYER

God grant me the serenity To accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference.

JUST FOR TODAY: THE CHOICE IS MINE

        1. Just for today I will try to live through this day only, not tackling all of my problems at once. I can do something at this moment that would discourage me if I had to continue it for a lifetime.

        2. Just for today I will try to be happy, realizing my happiness does not depend on what others do or say or what happens around me. Happiness is a result of being at peace with myself.

        3. Just for today I will try to adjust myself to what is and not force everything to adjust to my own desires. I will accept my family, my friends, my business, my circumstances as they come.

        4. Just for today I will take care of my physical and mental health; I will exercise my mind; I will read something spiritual.

        5. Just for today I will do somebody a good turn and not get found out. If anyone knows of it, it will not count. I will do at least one thing I don’t want to do, and I will perform some small act of love for my neighbor.

        6. Just for today I will try to go out of my way to be kind to someone I meet. I will be considerate, talk low, and look as good as I can. I will not engage in unnecessary criticism or finding fault, nor try to improve or regulate anybody except myself.

        7. Just for today I will have a program. I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it. I will save myself from two pests— hurry and indecision.

        8. Just for today I will stop saying, “If I had time.” I never will find time for anything. If I want time, I must take it.

        9. Just for today I will have a quiet time of meditation wherein I shall think of my Higher Power, of myself, and of my neighbor. I shall relax and seek truth.

        10. Just for today I shall be unafraid. Particularly, I shall be unafraid to be happy, to enjoy what is good, what is beautiful, and what is lovely in life.

        11. Just for today I will not compare myself with others. I will accept myself and live to the best of my ability.

        12. Just for today I choose to believe that I can live this one day.

Definitely go to the appointment, and as others have mentioned it's nothing to be ashamed of...it's a chemical imbalance and many times out of ones control. I'm not an expert but I have dealt with anxiety and depression.

In my case, there wasn't one event that happened that caused my depression, my life was going well, nothing bad was happening, BUT i didn't want to get out of bed. I didn't care. I couldnt smile, wasn't motivated, I was wired tight, very grumpy and anxious, didn't know why i was feeling this way and the longer it went on the more frustrated I got. This went on a couple months & knew it wasn't just in a bad mood or feeling down...there was something else going on.

For the depression I took zoloft, but everybody is different in response to prescription drugs so the doc is the best to help you figure that out. For anxiety i went to therapist. Depression i couldn't control, anxiety i could though and my life has changed for the better. I'm no longer on zoloft and glad i went and got help. No reason to feel embarrassed on taking control of your life and getting back to a better you! the sooner the better. Life is too short. good luck!

I got it bad a couple of years ago. Knew I had it, just didn't care enough to do anything about it. I put on 40lbs, and gave up everything I enjoyed. Then a friend called me out of the blue. She has always been my saviour as well as my kryptonite. When she called me, she knew something was up and drove over to pick me up and go out. Then she really laid it down, told me that I needed to take care of myself or thier is no way I will ever be able to do anything with my life. It was the kick I needed to return.
You are doing good by asking for help.
Accept that you are not yourself and make up your mind to do something about it.
              Blake's advice is spot on.
Never be afraid to ask for help.

Surround yourself with people you love. Let go of any negative folks. Enjoy what you have and don't worry bout what you don't have. Appreciate the little things in life. Don't worry about things you can not control. Get help from a professional. Many times I have wondered how the heck am I going to overcome a bad situation...Heck I'm still here. Enjoy life...everyone has problems and crisis...some hide it better than others..Keep on living life to the fullest...Good things will find you..

Praying for you. Depression is the attack of you mind. If you are not in a good church maybe consider one. Most churches have help in that area....It is more common than you think. And never be ashamed or hide the fact that you are depressed. MILLIONS are depressed. It was good you got on here cause a lot of people really want to help you out. YOU MATTER. I would read the book of John and just focus on what it is saying. Pray for the Holy Spirit to overpower those thoughts feelings and ask for healing. God heals the humble and the broken. I dont say it....He does.....Praying for you.
