Another thing to keep in mind is that signing Darvish will expose the Texas Rangers Brand to a whole new international fan base.
Cha ching!
I heard they have been watching him for two years. I trust they know what they are doing.
Boston paid 51.1 mil to negotiate with him and signed him to a six-year, $52 million deal. We paid basically the same for Darvish who is a much better pitcher. We will probably pay a little more for his contract, but it will get done. They stand to make a lot back in Japanese sales.
I personally think it was a terrible bid. They are spending 51.7 million just to negotiate, then Darvish is projected to want another 5 years at $15 million per, so they will have $125 million wrapped up in a pitcher with 0 big league experience. Not to mention all the failed Japanese pitchers before him that should have proven that it is not worth the risk on Japanese players. I think he will have a good year, possibly two, before the big league hitters figure him out and Darvish becomes a footnote. As a national league fan, I am kinda glad the Rangers signed him so I can watch them gravel and squirm the last 3-4 years of this guys contract while they pay him $15 million a year for nothing lmao
I like this signing. It adds pitching depth to the team that is needed. I also think it makes Harrison expendable to add depth in other areas. Here's to hoping we can finally win it all next season
He only has 6 pitches! He's also like 6'5" and 220 or something, not your typical Japanese build.
The Rangers had a scout at every game he started last year, just have to trust them on this one. Now go get me a lead off hitting center fielder and some hamstring braces for Nelly.

I think it's a great move. You are only gong to spend about 20 Million more than CJ got on a pitcher that is 7 years younger. I think giving CJ the contract he got would have been a worse deal.

You do know that if they dont sign him, they get every penny back.
Wait,---no you dont know that.
Could they have perhaps not tried to keep CJ due to the reports they were getting from scouts on this kid? I think they had a plan and are carrying it out. They have done pretty well so far. i can hear my daughter now...."this guy is who they replaced CJ with? Pffffft"....without ever seeing him throw one pitch. Lol.

Hmmm...I think you may be on to something here. Of course, there was no guarantee they would get first shot.
At this point I'm just hoping that ALL their moves work out for the best. They most likely won't but Daniels and Ryan seem to have their **** together when it comes to building a contender.
