You and Darvish both also have never being a MLB talent scout or general manager in common too....

Well let's forget that Darvish is coming from the Japanese league.....would you be comfortable with that size contract on a prospect out of college? How about one of your AAA players that had a good year? So not only has the kid never thrown a major league pitch, but he has roughly the same amount of experience as a AAA pitcher coming to the majors. And regardless of Japanese league or not, there are numerous examples of top pitching prospects that never made it in the Bigs (or had short careers and didn't live up to the expectations). Mark Prior, Strasburg, Kerry Wood, etc.

For someone who is an Astros fan you sure do care a whole lot about this deal...

he is still cheaper than CJ because the 51.7 mil does not count against the cap. and yeah for a 6'4" 220 pound hard throwing right hander with some serious junk and staying power to last more than 3 innings I would do it in a heart beat. name another RH pitcher available in the bigs who is available for that money or less.

            well worth the risk IMO.

              Colby Lewis
              Matt Harrison
              Neftali Feliz

With Feldman and Ogando in the bulpen to spot start. That might be worth watching.
I hope for the Rangers sake that Feliz is not in the rotation. He does not have the secondary pitches that he will need as a starter. ALL big leauge hitters can hit a 100mph FB when they see it multiple times in a game.

As far as YU D. goes most pitchers from Japan do not fair well because of the difference in the baseball. They use a ball more like a high school ball with higher seams and it is a touch smaller. This is the primary reason for the lack of success in MLB.

Personally I would rather have a rotation like:

              Holland
              Lewis
              Buehrle
              Capuano
              Harrison

              Leave the pen strong!

I also think if the Rangers were truly planning to move Feliz to the rotation they would have signed Mike Bell from the Padres to ensure the pen was strong. YES some will say the Joe Nathan signing did this but coming off the injury is always scary.

One thing is for sure: JD and Nolan have been pretty tight with cash so this kid must have really made an impression. It is a shock to me that nobody is saying they think he is a #1 starter. Lots of cash for a #2 or #3.

              Just my .02

My buddy played with Darvish last year on the Nippon-Ham Fighters in Saporro. I bet he is the only person in Tx that hopes Darvish does not sign with the Rangers. When I asked him about Darvish he said he thinks he is by far the best pitcher in the Japanese league and he was very glad he was on the same team instead of facing him. He said with Darvish it isn't hype, he thinks he will be a stud here too. I hope he's right. Rangers could use an ace.

There is no denying the Astros are going to be bad for many more years, but it won't be long until the Rangers are right there with them. Heck, the Rangers have only been relevant for the past two years, other than that they were constant bottom dwellers.

And just because there weren't any other pitchers available thru free agency is not a good excuse to go and spend $120mm on an unproven prospect. It is comical they would consider spending that kind of money. Nolan is letting the defeats of the last two World Series cloud his judgement. How was that National League beat down the last two years btw?! Lmao

Nolan is scared of the Angels and the improvements they made and he is overreacting. Pujols will never live up to his contract and that contract will be a drain on the Angels in about 4 years, and CJ Wilson will not be the "ace" they expect him to be

If you count MLBN as baseball people, then yes...

Nolan and Daniels are what I consider baseball people as well..

It is easy to predict doom...."right click save as" for pulling back up when Darvish is calling Orange Juice Park his house...

Are you frickin serious ? You think you know more than Nolan or Daniels ? Get real dude, if the Rangers sign this kid he will dominate, maybe you should put in for the rangers GM job, then maybe the Rangers could win.
