Gettin JACKED!! Leaving in a couple weeks for steamboat, buddy just got camp set up today and he said the Elk sign is lookin good!! Where are yall headed to this fall? Side note. Will be quite interesting to see how things play out with this being the last year of OTC elk for non residents.

the last unit cluster that went from OTC to Draw are still 2nd and 3rd choice units with left overs every year.

unless CO does away with the tag turn back program, nothing will really change. You will still be able to get a point and draw same unit next year… and next year… and next year extra.

CWD has been found in an elk in SE Montana. Last week they announced CWD was found in SW Montana, close to our town and where I’ve hunted.

The one in SE Montana looked sick, I understand the local elk did not.

Truly horrible news.

Just got my Arizona application in. Research season is underway for most of the other states. I think I’m putting my wife in for Montana and I’m swinging for the fences in the random draw states.

Dang. That is right where I am scheduled to hunt this fall - hunt 799-21. I am not sure of the precise unit.

Man I've been burning the hours researching options this year. Trying to decide still what region to apply to in WY for gen elk tag. I was leaning south but I'm not guaranteed that tag with 5 points. Go west region where I'm guaranteed the tag but likely hunting fringe griz country solo. Or even go a different route and save points for a decent limited archery tag. Too many decisions! With my elk points reset in AZ to 1, chances are slim I hit anything there. I didnt enjoy the late rifle hunt nearly as much as I have my archery hunts, so odds go down even more sticking to archery lol. Still chasing a particular elk unit in CO. Every point I gain point creep jumps about 70% each year. Might throw in for MT again and go see Bill!

Sounds familiar to my Colorado plan. Lower to mid tier unit that everyone is dumping points on because there is a lack of options.

I just somehow doubled up on bull tags in AZ. Drew last year and just noticed another $650 charge from AZGF with only 1 point!

CO potentially screwed me bad this year. The NR OTC archery closure is crap. Not going to burn 15pts in a 100% private unit just to get a tag. I hope the have enough tags to draw second choice, but rifle tags they don’t so Guess I may burn my points this year in a public unit. Waiting call back still on # of archery tags they will allocate to NR still, no one seems to know.

I guess on the bright side will be a cheaper year for me this year, depending on how many elk tags I draw.

Lol. Fingers crossed its my first choice for early archery, even though the moon will be brutal for that time period. My second choice was late rifle again, even though I said I wouldnt apply again to that hunt. Odds were so slim either way I didnt think it mattered lol.
