Any Duck Hunters? Need help with the Feed Call

I tried this moring and still the same as my first post losing air on the ka note

What call are you using?

just dont call at them, 90% of the time hunters call too much at ducks

Honest to god you are doing all you can, just start slow and gradually go faster

tick......a tick....a tick...a tick..a tick.a. i used to be slow and i got tongue tied after about 4 ticka's so i just added a quack in my sequence so i would go

ticka ticka ticka quack ticka ticka ticka quack quack ticka ticka ticka quack quack quack and just start that over, just be careful of your spit building up. its so hard to coach someone without listening to them

This is how I learned. Make sure you can do one 'tuck a' good. Then worry about blending a bunch together.

The very best call you can master is a simple 3 note drawn out comeback call. Very rarely will you hear wild ducks make calls that are more than 3-5 notes. What you see on tv is for duck hunters, not ducks.

Honestly, the ole shur shot mallard 650 double reed is a great call, been putting bird's on strap's for many years. The shur shot yentzen works well too....and they are cheap!

Feed call is down now. I did not want to go for the contest style call but now I somehow was able to pick that up too. I can now double cluck and throw in a lonesome hen while I do the feed call. I am pretty pleased. The biggest improvement was I tried a few calls that were timber calls or ones that had a cajun squeal. They take less air. If anyone else is having trouble find you a call with a short barrel and and small exit port. It helped me learn and once you get it down it makes learning on large volume calls easy. Thanks for all the help!

Try some really short runs and mix in some quacks and other calls as needed. Also, the shaker calls that look like they are from a sex shop work. Doesn't look as cool but can be effective.

NOTE: the "ticka ticka ticka" call is not a feeding call but a call used by birds still in the air...........makes no sence to use it with decoys on the water (more for show and contest)


Make sure you are doing the "da da da" type version.


SECOND NOTE: after watching several thousand birds in flocks in Arkansas I MAYBE heard 10-15 seconds of feed chatter...they were to occupied feeding to talk The "Quack" is the true killers call....and 90% of "duck hunters" can't perform this call correctly.
