the rains did cause all kinds of green browse to spring up. after the whole summer of eating brown twigs, the critters like the succulent new growth. In addition what few acorns that made this year fell in the last two weeks. these things and those areas that had wheat planted are preferred right now. not to worry. the golden kernels will work in time.

This is what I always thought but the spike my daughter killed this past weekend had a stomach full of grass. I have never seen that much grass in one. Don't think it was winter wheat. There is not a wheat field within miles of our place. Thought that much grass was unusual.
The deer not showing is happening here also. Have seen a few and I think a little more than last year but we don't have the acorns like last year.

THIS ^^^^^^. The deer are still there. They do not have to come to the feeders due to all of the fresh browse. For those of you with a sudden burst of acorns, well, you will need a freeze to hit soon. I cannot wait for a freeze to hit. I have watched deer run in the fields, feed in front of the ranch house (up to 25 deer) and not a one of them is going to a feeder during daylight hours. I have never experieinced this in South Texas. They will eventually come to corn whether it is hand-feed or at a feeder. It may be late November, Dec, or Jan. BUT, they will show up. Our place looks like Mother Nature put on a new shade of green camoflauge after the rains.

Something else I have noticed is I am not getting any fawns in my game cam pics. Well, maybe they are not considered fawns by now but have not had any on there in the past several months. Maybe the preditors are too thick in Young county. Don't know. Sure know I hear lots of coyotes around me at dawn and dusk.

Just be glad you have a place to hunt. If you give it time, things will turn around.

My lease was sold out from under me in the middle of September and it was really to late to find anything for this season!

Count your blessings. It's not the killing, but the experience that counts. The harvest is just icing on the cake.
