Take this opportunity to get him started on the "right foot".
Have him prove shooting proficiency at camp before he goes out, or something.
Talk about when to draw, animal alertness/position, shot placement, recovery, etc.

But Don't Blow him Off..That's just wrong !!

IMO, hunting is more than just climbing a tree and trying to stick something. 95% of the trip is about hanging at the campfire , telling lies, learning from mistakes, and chillin with friends.
as a newcomer, he needs to learn "How to bowhunt". take him under your wing and educate him. be his mentor and help the newbie !!!
What would Fred Bear do ????
why abandon him now just b/c he bought a bow this a.m. ?
how would you feel if someone promised to take your child hunting, found out he/she had never shot a bow/firearm before, and decided to "uninvite" your child at the last minute ?
this friend of yours might get so addicted to the sport , that he "Thanks you" in the future by treating you to a hog or exotic hunt. His aunt Matilda might own 5,000 acres in the Hill Country and he may offer to take you .
Step up to the plate and teach the newcomer about this sport ...... How you hunt an area, why you hunt a location, where to place a stand with the wind direction , etc....
IMO, If you "uninvite" him, you're truly not a freind

But really, find some way to help him get started...even if he doesn't shoot at a deer.
or just get him snockered with some southern comfort tonight where he wont wake up for the morning hunt and if he does hes just going to pass out in the blind...
