I wouldn't turn anyone in, in fact I feel there are a lot of times these deer need to be shot.

        Don't be sorry, it's a good thread.

        Yes I turn poachers in.

Especially when they're on my land or property I'm in charge of.

We're tracking one right now. He's been in the area scouting and we're scouting him.

Once I find where his vehicle is parked Sheriff and GW get a call.

Would I turn in someone who shot an illegal buck. Depends.

If it's 12 inches, no. Too close for me to call.

I told him that I hope the Game Warden showed up and threw his arse in jail. He don't like me now. I'd call in on him if I knew where the place was, or even if it were true. He ain't my friend and he was blatantly breaking the law.

So if you speed, and you know you sped do you turn yourself in? If you're riding with your Dad and he goes through a school zone at 40 instead of 35 and realizes it halfway through, do you call the cops on him. Do you turn in your son that accidentally pops a Wood Duck during Teal season in low light conditions? That is ridiculous. Accidents happen sometimes. I don't think it is a question of someone's integrity if they choose not to drop the dime on a friend or family member. It's your DUTY as a friend to discuss the problem with them and tell them you're not gonna hunt with game law breakers.

          best post ever

            Accident: No
            Intentionally: Still probably not.

Call it what you want to, thats a "DO GOODER" issue plus i'm not a Game Warden nor do I want to be one. (not that their is anything wrong with that) GW's do serve a great purpose and come across some serious stressfull situations but I'm not in the business of reporting friends for a silly AR violation. (Respectiviely speaking I have many GW friends)

Why would you ruin a friendship over a stupid mistake???? and Plus on a Game Management rule that is in effect because of the lack of Adequate Game Managers in certain areas?
I got to agree with this

How can you say that?! It doesn't take a biologist to understand that if you stop shooting 8"-12" YOUNG deer that those same deer can grow to be bigger/legal deer!
Are there exceptions? YES! Some deer may never get over 13" but A VERY LARGE MAJORITY of bucks WILL GROW WIDER THAN 13" after a few years.

Depends on if there's antler restrictions in the county or if the group, land owner has stated antler restrictions. Some people see horns and loose their mind and control of their trigger finger. Teach your buddy to glass the animal first. Teach him what is considered a legal deer to harvest. I know I needed the help of my hunting buddies to guage a deer to harvest when I first started. There's a lot of meat hunters out there as well and with todays economy there will be more. Horns or not some people just want the meat and will shoot anything.

Easy there Gr8white. Lets see what you admitted in your post.

                        1. Shot a 12 inch deer----violation #1. Ok cool mistakes happen, and I can totally understand that. Especially if it is the first year of AR in an area.

                        2. Willingly falsified your tag with incorrect information--Violation #2. This one is not cool nor is it able of being overlooked. If you did it for this deer, how many other deer have you improperly tagged? Or when will you do it again, should you happen to shoot another under sized deer??

                        3. Posting picture of said undersized deer to confirm that 1. it did in fact not meet AR regulations, and that 2. you are still in possession of illegally harvested game animal parts. There are plenty of people who get busted for breaking game laws every single year because they post a picture or tell a story on the internet. Two that come to mind are is the guy from Wichita Falls that shot the deer out of a park, and the guys in OK who had an attic full of antlers from illegally harvested deer.

Like I said in my post, and not that I am pulling the ethics police card on you or anything, you openly willingly admitted to violating several game laws, and posted photographic evidence to confirm your actions. That is really no different that a written confession, and if you don't think it would be used as evidence, ask yourself how so many people lose their jobs and destroy their marriages because of a simple little Facebook post or comment. I made no comment about you or how you felt, only that you should maybe reconsider what you say and show on the internet.

@Snipehunter-- if it is an absolute myth, why are so many people saying it is working? lake georgetown could have a high number of narrow racked deer, and since that is where YOU hunt that is what you see. But overall for all of the area that has AR, protecting the smaller younger deer until they have a chance to mature is producing a better deer herd with bucks that have larger racks.

A warden will write a ticket for 1/2" violation. Most of y'all know how I know. I couldn't make the mistake without turning myself in. It was costly. I took a, (justified), beating for it here by some members, and my wallet took a pretty good hit too.
Would I turn in a friend? Thats his call, not mine. I would hope he would have the ethics to do it himself. If he didn't I wouldn't be hunting with him again. Mistake in taking the shot or not. Once he put a tape to the animal and knew it violated AR, he is no longer making a mistake. He is making a conscious decision to cover up a game violation.
Gr8white, last year I posted pics of 2 deer my brother in law killed in Kansas. I didn't know there is a one buck harvest rule in that state and that my brother in law, (who I consider a very good friend), illegally killed a second deer. It didn't take long after posting here that I was asked by PM if I would be willing to speak to a Ks warden. I agreed to do so because at that point I was a material witness. Another member of the GS, ( I don't know who), called Texas wardens and in a couple of days I had 2 wardens in my driveway wanting to know everything I knew. My BILs name, address, the location of the deer. I answered all the questions they asked as honestly as I could. My BIL lost both deer, (both of which were P&Y), his ability to hunt in 32 states including Texas, His beloved 30/06, and almost $10,000.
Had I known he violated those laws would I have called or made that post? Probably not, however I would have talked to him about it. And after having hunted with him for years his reaction to that talk would determine whether or not I would ever hunt with him again. He swears he thought he could legally use a landowners tag for the second buck. I have given him the benefit of the doubt.
He has learned a lesson from this, as I did with my AR violation at the H. His license suspension will be up on Christmas eve. He doesn't have a lease this year but I have a stand for him to hunt. if he ever blatantly breaks a game law that I become aware of I won't hunt with him anymore. And I would have to decide then if I would call. His Ks violation could have cost him his job and livelyhood. That would affect my SIL and my niece as well. I can't throw them to the wolves for his actions.

again gr8, I am not saying you are happy about anything. what I am saying is that if a person wanted to come after you for what you have admitted to, they would have hard evidence against you that could make it rather problematic. not trying to be pretentious or solve your problems. not even trying to pass judgment on you or anything you have done. it was more of a warning to maybe be a little more careful about what you throw on the web.
