Please read the whole thread. I never said an honest mistake makes a poacher...

I'm not calling in an accident on a friend. If it happened again, I'd realize that he and I have different standards and he wouldn't be my hunting buddy anymore. I follow game laws and expect those that I hunt with to do the same. I saw a guy I know the other day bragging about baiting ducks. I told him that I hope the Game Warden showed up and threw his arse in jail. He don't like me now. I'd call in on him if I knew where the place was, or even if it were true. He ain't my friend and he was blatantly breaking the law.

So if you speed, and you know you sped do you turn yourself in? If you're riding with your Dad and he goes through a school zone at 40 instead of 35 and realizes it halfway through, do you call the cops on him. Do you turn in your son that accidentally pops a Wood Duck during Teal season in low light conditions? That is ridiculous. Accidents happen sometimes. I don't think it is a question of someone's integrity if they choose not to drop the dime on a friend or family member. It's your DUTY as a friend to discuss the problem with them and tell them you're not gonna hunt with game law breakers.

So, speaking of the Hill Country here, if you are trying to do a part in game management, and a fully mature 6 pointer is spreading his genetics in your area, and would be 12 7/8 inside, and mature big 6 pointers do breed, and do put the woop on some larger bucks, what would you do? Have you ever drove 60 mph in a 55 zone, just sayin!!

Hope I never see any of you guys speeding or not using a turn signal. I will feel it my obligation to the judicial system to turn you guys in as I feel its only right

When I went to pick him up he said he shot a good buck and it was way outside the ears. We find the deer, it's 12". He boxes it and prayes the gw doesn't check him. He makes it home. After a stearn warning...Two years later the same hunter shoots a good buck, when i pick him up he said, " I hope it's legal". I then told him to get his deer, leave and not to come back. So, when you see a deer, look and see if it's what you really want to shoot. Take your time, make sure it's legal. Look at it through binoculars before you grab the range finder. I know if your hunting trails thats hard to do, but bait hunters have the time.
X2. Probably more mistakes are made during the rut when bucks are chasing and everyone is running on adrenaline.

My Ethics RUN DEEP.... It's no different to me than my buddies that SMOKE POT or Drink and Drive... Do you call the cops on your friends that leave your home after having a few glasses of wine??? Or the Friend that has been a pot smoker for years and PROBABLY even does it at the lease and in his stand..... As a matter of fact that's probably the reason he thought the buck was wider than 12, are you going to call on him???? I think not... If so I'd be saddened by your lack of loyalty or your lack of concern for your FRIEND and his family. Especially over a deer that missed legality by less than his manly imagination.

Two years ago we had several pics of a 2 1/2 year old 8 point with a 6" drop tine on its right side. Thrugh the pics we desided he was only 11-12 inches wide and informed all members and showed them the pics. We told everyone DO NOT shoot this deer he is to young and is not 13". Well you guessed it someone shot him. The hunter was escorted fromt he lease and told not to come back. He clamed it was a mistake but with all the forwarning his excuse didn't fly.

Personally, if i have a question about the legality of a deer, then it walks. Period. And i have done it more than once, and suspect I will do it again. Regardless of age, and what genetics he is spreading around. One buck that breeds a few does will not make nearly the impact you are led to believe he will, especially in a low fence, uncontrolled environment. Because when you pop that buck, how do you know the spike on the next place over didnt breed the doe the 6 pointer was going to????????

I'm not the morality police. Never said I was, never intended to be one. I'm just sitting at home high on drugs, can't get out and bored silly.
I'm also not calling in on my friends and family for any silly mistake that one of'em might or might not make. Now if they continued to make same mistake over and over and over then maybe I would need to rethink my position.
Season is almost here and hopfully I'll make the stand by mid-October. AR rules out a couple of deer we've seen before. Probably 140 but so close to 13" thay get a lifetime pass...

Call it what you want to, thats a "DO GOODER" issue plus i'm not a Game Warden nor do I want to be one. (not that their is anything wrong with that) GW's do serve a great purpose and come across some serious stressfull situations but I'm not in the business of reporting friends for a silly AR violation. (Respectiviely speaking I have many GW friends)

Why would you ruin a friendship over a stupid mistake???? and Plus on a Game Management rule that is in effect because of the lack of Adequate Game Managers in certain areas?
I'm really glad your my friend

I guess what I'm trying to say it happens some times but if it happened to me or one of my boys now I would call the gw and let him know what happened and what we needed to do and except any punishment he deemed appropriate
I understand your mistake and understand you learned from it, but WOW, if your son made the same honest mistake, even if by 1/16 of an inch, you would turn him in? Wow! Because trust me, there are many deer that will P&Y that are not 13 inside, 12" G2's, and 30",s of mass makes it tough to tell the spread! But to each his own, carry on.
