Earlier this yr I bought a Liberty Fat Boy Jr. from Gander. They had an end of the yr sale $200 off the normal price... or maybe it was $300, i don't remember. My two bosses, a buddy and I got the safe in the house. I love the thing! It currently even has my bow in it along with the rest of my guns and paperwork!

Now that I see the price, I paid $899 with the $200 end of the yr discount for mine!

the only person on here who's mentioned a REAL safe is mike D.
all the rest are Residential security containers (RSC)
since you "seem" to have a fortune in firarms, why would you buy a $500-$800 RSC ?

you should be prepared to spend $5k+ on a SAFE

I dont understand what you mean when all of you say, "They are built to last." Hell, arent all of the safes, other than the Sentry cheap safes built to last. They all do their job right. How many times are you going to have your safe stolen or broken into? I would say 1 time max, right. If it is stolen or broken into, you are still going to have to get another one. So it did its job.

Fire. If your safe is in a fire, something is going to happen to your guns. The wood is going to warp, the metal is going to warp. Again, if the fire does not completely destroy your guns, the safe did its job. You are still going to have to buy another one.

That is why I dont understand, the comment, they are built to last. If they are not broken into, no fire, not stolen, then what else do you want them to do. It is not like they are just going to fall apart, sitting in the corner of a closet, bolted to the slab. What exactly does "they were built to last" mean? I dont understand.

I just got a good deal on a Winchester safe its a ranger 45 it about 900 lb. Has a 1 hour fire rating at 1400 degees. It cost me about $1600. I found it in this add in the paper in College Station it was at this alarm compeny call Advanced Security. They were cheaper than some of the other places that i looked at on line or in town for the quality that I got for the price.

If I remember correctly, the safe in that video was a Liberty.

My main gripe with AMSEC is the concrete filler they use for their fireproofing. It absorbs heat and in a prolonged burn, it will get extremely hot inside the safe and stay hot for a long time. Ever walked out beside your house on a 100 degree day and felt the heat radiating from the bricks even hours after sundown?

That also makes them disproportionally heavy and have a much larger foot print. The same thing can be accomplished by using far superior materials saving weight and size.

If you really want protection, you need to have one made or find one with 1/4" steel and ceramic fire lining . I had one made at Security Products . In Waco. I helped draw it up and they made it. It's 6' wide , double door with ceramic lining. It was the first one like it and the man said he hated me because every person that seen one wanted it.
Then you need a good video security system. I purchased one at sams for around $1500.00 . It has 4 color , infered camers. 1 in your gun room, and the rest where ever you want..
Then ADT on your home. $99 install fee and under $30 a month for monaturing..
Then you still have to pray.

5k is a hell of a whole lot of money! Wasnt planning on spending that much. Since you "seem" to have an idea of a good safe what exactly do you prefer?

I would like to buy one and be done for life. I will save for it and finally rip the band aid off... So money isnt the biggest factor. I hope to fill that safe up and then buy another Safe to fill up!

I have a tendency to spend about 1500+ a gun... So I would like something to protect them from would be thieves, or fire. I need a pretty large safe but still movable (coaching).

I started looking at them and just got more and more confused...

What Brand? What Price range for that brand? Pros and cons for that brand? Best place to buy?

                              Whats the GS braintrust think?

                              Thanks!
For a true safe, check out sportsmansteelsafes.com. I have been in their showroom in houston with a friend that bought one. High quality and free shipping.

How much would you estimate your current collection of guns to be worth? And you said you wanted to add more. Not to mention you can put stuff besides guns in there as well.

I have no problem spending that kind of money on a safe because I have stuff that can't be replaced at any value regardless of insurance.
