It's just that the last year of threats, posturing, "we get no respect", maybes, maybe nots, and associated clutter......kinda makes you go "I don't care what you do, just do something and move on"!
I'd rather the Ags stay, and the big 12 start immediately about the business of looking for 6 more legit programs, but it's just not happening that way.
If the Ags wind up in the SEC, I hope they immediately blow through that thing like **** through a goose! Then come back to Texas to get their hides tanned on thanksgiving courtesy the boys in burnt orange! Mostly I hope they stomp lsu into the mud every year, and do the same to Florida! We'll see ya on Thanksgiving soon enough!
Honestly, I hated to see Tech Fire Leach, and happy to see Baylor hire UH old head coach. I was hoping for the BIG 12 to dominate the SEC. If UT, OU, OSU, ATM, and TECh could have all been ranked and had a strong Baylor team in the mix, it would have been the new power conference, and even more important to me, the MOST powerful State with no questions. CALIFORNIA and FLORIDA would have to have bowed their heads.
But Tech screwed up, UT signed an agreement that will hurt ATM, and ATM said we don't have to take it and we aren't. Unfortunately for the other big boys in the conference, they act like they didn't care that ATM would or could leave and it wouldn't matter, but now I think they are seeing it really does. And it's due to the fact that there is more to it than just Football.
Tech is the biggest loser in this deal and they did what they thought was best for them and the PC move.
I hate to see it go down this way but I hope we all pan out. My dad is a huge UH fan and he still talkes about they used to punish UT and ATM and the rest of the SWC, so that is why we all took our toys and left. History on all this is yet to be told but there will be some losers in the deal and it's inevitable for Baylor and TECH to be at the top of that list.

I say UT doesn't need A&M due to the network deal and being able to successfully go indy - I don't think A&M could do either of those. IMO
A&M's big independent move is to go to another conference, that's nothing UT couldn't do either.
systemnt - my point is that I simply do not buy into this being 100% about the money. And yes, this is all IMO. Is there really a need to have to put that each and every time ya post something - facts are suppored with a link otherwise they are regarded as opinion, right? lol
Bottomline, it's an ugly mess.
Yes, younsters and band wagon fans (for both sides) do not know the history nor care about the rivalry...sad.

The Red River Rivalry has always been a big game, but in the 70s it took on a whole new life being that both teams were always ranked and fighting it out. But then in the 80s to mid 90s there was not much of a fuss about the game. Then once again in the late 90s to now both teams are perennially ranked and solid. It is the last 12-13 years of heated battles that most remember.
But with that said, the A&M/Texas Thanksgiving Day game has a lot of meaning. These teams are not only playing for school pride but State pride. A lot of these kids grow up playing each other in high school. It is a matter of who is the best in the state. So don't try and tell me that this rivalry means nothing because that would not be true. If A&M would become a perennial top 10 team along with Texas, and Oklahoma start tanking it again, then there would be a new generation seeing things different than now.
I know both rivalries are very important to Texas so I don't know what they get out of saying it is not.
I have never understood why aTm hates us so much when it isn't reciprocated. I also don't understand why Aggies care that we don't care and insist that it is a rivalry and that it is important to us. From this lifelong Longhorn's eyes, it just ain't what Aggies want it to be. There is no hate or love for y'all...it is just another game much like Tech and Baylor. I WANT y'all to do well in the SEC and represent the state of Texas. I think it is a great move for both programs. You will get more exposure and we will be able to schedule somebody like Notre Dame on T-Day. Win-win. Good luck gentlemen.

Say! I like both teams, and I'm from Illinois. I will still be able to watch both teams, and I'm from Illinois but have lived in Texas for 20 years. Iv'e enjoyed the ruhbarb between the tech and the Aggies. I don't get political, I don't care either way I still get to watch them play, that makes me neutral, so I will root for the both of them, I guess thats because, I consider myself a TEXAN!!!

I had the same feelings when we played UH (Klingler/Ware era), Tech, Nebraska, etc. Heck, I cared more about beating Arkansas than aTm.

I hate to see the breakup of the Big 12-2 like many you. Its a shame it got to this point but I think A&M is making the right move. They are moving into a conference with much greater stability that Beebe can provide with the Big 12. Beebe is a joke of conference commissioner. What I dont understand is why Beebe thought everything was fine last year once two of the strongest North teams bolted for greener pastures. I think he somehow convinced most schools that the league would be fine as a 10 team league and that we didnt need a championship game.
So our conference is in a state of contraction, yet the strongest conferences in the nation are considering expansion to superconferences. Hello Dan Beebe?? How come Beebe wasnt actively trying to replace CU and NU last year once they gave their walking papers? I mean, now, with the Ags leaving, you suddenly here talk about adding BYU, ND, Pitt, UH, etc. Why didnt this start last year? Good luck Ags. Beat the H.E. Double Hockey Sticks out of SEC.

I'm a 42 year old UT grad and I see it the same way. I also dont understand why it matters to ags how Texas fans feel about the game.

IMO you dont see aggressive expansion of the Big 12 because UT and OU both see the value of their own networks and have their eyes on a new conference with others that feel the same way. My guess is OU, UT, ND and BYU are together in an effort to build a conference or OU, OSU, TT and UT all join the PAC.
Either way, the Big 12 wont exist beyond 2015 is my guess.
