ok, where does the "prison guard" vs "correctional officer" play in? And what facilities have you worked on? Just trying to get an idea of what you have seen. 90% of the inmates on all the farms i have worked on work. Not saying I agree with our current system, however, even the leadership in huntsville do not control the way things are ran now, thats all the politicians work.

Prison guard and correctional officer were not my terms... i sued them to infer a point based on their subjective meanings..
Correctional Officer infers that you are in a facility that attempts to correct a behaviour... as I said "THROUGH NO FAULT OF THE PEOPLE THAT WORK THERE".. the facilities don't correct anything - Google repreat offender statistics and that will show you exactly that point.
With regard to the farms you've worked at, you understand that the prisoners working on those farms are a very small subset of the actual prison population..and its voluntary..right?

Ya im very up to date on the statistics. And I see your play on words w correctional officer. I like that. As to the farms I've been on... pretty consistent within the state. And im well aware on the work being voluntary. Again im not saying I agree with the current system.

They used to want to work in Vernon Parish Louisiana. My Dad was a Deputy and they took the inmates to the pea farm each day to garden and bring it back to the jail and shell it and put it up. The guys that didn't want to work were the last in the chow line each night and it seemed all the meat was gone when it came their time. Dad said they were glad to volunteer after a couple days of no meat.

I agree with alot of yall.If they had to work instead of setting in their cell watching TV and getting three meals a day there wouldn't be as many repeat offenders. They're living a great life in prison other than occasionally gettin stabbed or raped by another inmate but you know what.......I don't care about that.In fact maybe if they didn't have so many baby sitters watching their back they'd be a little more scared of prison instead of wanting to go back for a second or third time.I watched a show on TV a while back about the worlds worst prisons. In my opinion we could learn a thing or two about runnin a prison from other countries like Mexico or Russia.

Now for what I wish would happen but never will.I wish we would bring all of the troops back and start cleaning out some of these over crowded prisons. If it was up to me anyone who is in prison for murder, molesting a child or raping someone would be the first to go to Afghanistan. They wouldn't get guns either........they'd get a sharp stick seein how they're big and bad anyway.Unless it was a child molester. They wouldn't jump out of an airplane with any weapons at all. Some of them wouldn't even get the privelege of jumpin out of an airplane with a parachute. If they think killin, rapin and stealin things is the way to live life......well they'd have their opportunity. And once they ran of out folks to kill they'd have a whole country to theirselves and they could run it however they wanted to.

                      Prisoners don't have to work.
Prisoners have access to TV, Cable, Basketball courts, handball courts, Weight rooms, baseball fields, doctors, dentists, psychologists, surgeries, etc etc etc...
Other than the fact they are locked up.. and they are in with other criminals where they might get harmed, where is the incentive to not come back exactly?
If a prison was ran like...i dunno.. a prison.. these guys wouldnt have crap and be forced to work to pay their debt to society..they dont work..they just increased their sentence.... their incentive to not come back would be built in.

                      Just a theory.

Prisons were prisons until William Wayne Justice got involved. Now the inmates run the asylum...

We can't, that would be against their civil rights. That is why Texas Prisons are no longer self sustaining like they once were.

I too spent 3 years in T.D.C.J. for a crime or crimes I did commit. I have seen some other posts directed towards ex-cons, but I must chime in this time. I was a first class screw up and am still paying for it. That is why I bow hunt. I cant LEGALLY own a gun even to protect my family now because of it. I did ask for the option to go to the military and wasnt allowed. So it wasnt because i didnt try. I had fought many guards and other offenders just for the fun of it. (What you gonna do throw me in jail. ) lol I eventually saw what I needed to do and went to college while the state paid for it. I been out 6 years and had the same job ever since. Do not fight with police officers anymore and raising 5 kids. Its not the states job to rehabilitate anymore only to keep society safe from you. It is up to the individual to want to change. Also the people that talk so bad about us ex cons hope you dont find yourself on the other side one day. It can and does happen to many innocent people everyday. Never think your too good for that to happen to you. Just fyi it was drugs I was sentenced to 15 years for Meth out of Williamson County. I also worked everyday in there, was ammonia refrigeration mechanic for the meat packing plant for the hogs they feed us 3 times a day, I never layed around.

I think we should have a Gladiator system for death row inmates. Winner gets life vs the needle. Taxpayers get $$$ from sale proceeds of tickets to the show. Plus we get to constantly reduce the total number of inmates. Participation is voluntary.

Yup what she said. And you can thank William Wayne Justice for our current dismal situation...I know the prisoners do.
