Sitting here waiting a flight outta Midland Michigan (damp and 71 btw) and come up with a thought.

Serving out your full prison term- Give the prisoners an option to reduce their term

Option A- choose not to participate and serve your full sentence!!!! All of it

Option B- The tournamentExample: 30 year term, Pair up in a cell with another inmate, also 30 year term, and fight it out till only one survives. Winner gets 15 years reduced

He then faces off with a winner from another bracket winner and the survivor of that gets another half reduced.

Eventually, only one 30 year sentenced prisoner will come out a winner....... To only get to face the winner of another prison!!!!

And the championship rounds begin!!!!!

Put all violent offenders on an island by themselves with no support from the outside world and we wouldn't have to worry about it. Of course it would probably turn out to be a tournament like you described anyway.

Hard labor in a prison camp. There's nothing a inmate hates more than being put to work! They have the impression that prison is a place to relax and have the state take care of them. Trust me, I was a prison guard while in College in Huntsville.

Texas State Prison system is designed to rehabilitate not punish...Could type alot more but have to get to work.
