DoubleL,
The Invisible Fences are great and Lacys are very easy to train on them. It's like a Master to his dog, the fence is only as good as the trainer!
They work extremely well and are perfect for keeping the dog in. They don't keep out other dogs or critters but they really do work well. The Invisible Fence Brand fence is the best, beyond a doubt, but they are somewhat expensive. They do all the installation and train the dogs though, so it is worth it. I bought a Petsafe Brand fence, installed it myself (which was a huge freaking job) and it works great, but I am a freak about training and I already knew how to do it.
The training is what the fence is all about. If you throw the dog out there and don't train him right, you will end up with a "Porch Dog" that will be terrified to go out in the yard. The proper training is all based on conditioned response to positive happenings and an audio and visual warning (flags). This is the "Happy Zone" and over there is the "Bad Place".
You can actually (if done to the letter) train a dog without a fence with only flags and a training collar! I've seen it done. They did all the pre-trainig and it only takes one correction and the dog was completely trained. It never, ever went past the flags again. Diego NEVER goes out past the boundry (I have an acre loop). As a matter of fact, I checked his battery and it had been dead for months. He never even tests the boundries anymore.
Give me a call if you need more info. 512-468-1581
Hope this helps,
J.P.
