    Blue Lacy

Anybody own any Blue Lacy dogs or breed them? I don't know much about the breed but was thinking about getting one. They are the State Dog of Texas, I know that much. Thinking of one for a Christmas Present for the kids. Any help is Greatly Appreciated.

I have two lacies. I am a huge proponent of the breed as a working dog.

The Texas Lacy Game Dog Association (TLGDA) is a breeder and owner association. Our mission is to preserve this unique and amazing breed.

I don't breed pets which is what it sounds like you are looking for but you are welcome to give me a call if you want to talk about the breed in general. Courtney could point you in the right direction too.

I have a lacy and will not get another one. They are very smart dogs and great tracking dogs. Mine is very aggressive towards other people and dogs. I believe it was a bad mix though. I think 2 of the pups from the litter I bought from have been put down already for the same thing. I have been around other lacy dogs that are great. Before you decide which breed you want to get you should decide what you want the dog for. Mine is mainly a house dog that I take out during deer season and use him to track deer.

I am not sure if it is gonna be my dog or the kids dog, could be both, he will hopefully live inside the house. I might give you a call, I am suppost to be working right now but will keep your number. Thanks Brian

Not at all. But, I have learned that by breeding for specific hunting qualities, you also breed out pet qualities. There are several people out there who do not breed specifically for hunting traits, and those dogs make really good pets. Its just that ours are not. Give me a call and I can tell you darn near anything you want to know.

No blame pointed your way Steve. I still say it was just a bad mix. Besides he wasn't one of your dogs. He is a tracking machine though

I think it is the coyote blood in the dog.

I know no blame but Seth's dogs and ours are bread the same and we have had similer results. Though you are correct, that cross is a little too aggressive.

Sam and his siblings are "hunting mad" and I know that he tracks like crazy, which speaks directly to my point. Will some of our pups make great pets? Sure but that is the exception, not the rule.

BTW, Only one of his siblings was put down, the one that we ran over. She really lost her marbles after that. His brother was given to a man who hunts hogs "one out" (one dog on one hog) he is doing great as a only dog in a country environment. He is still crazy and balls to the wall but he is catching LOTS of pigs.

We may end up trying to place mine. If we do it will be similar type home. No kids and no other dogs and a country living. Glad to hear ya'll didn't have to put the other one down. I remember you saying ya'll thought you were going to have to.
