Sounds to me like everyone who has dry fired a Mathews had it blow up. Good thing it was a Bear!

To clarify, when I dry fired mine I learned a big lesson. What happened to me is that I got in my ground blind before light and I wanted to make sure that I was clear to draw and make sure the windows in the blind were down far enough should a shot present itself. Anyhow, I didn't nock an arrow and it was still pretty dark and I hooked my release to the loop although it must not have been a good hook up because when I started drawing it back it let loose about half way back. Sounded pretty bad and I got a really sick feeling in my gut. Had hunted with a bow about 18 years and never dry fired one before. I knew better than to draw back without an arrow but I it had never happened before... and it never will again now. Needless to say, my hunt was ruined but thankfully I found a bow shop in town open on a Friday to fix it up and give it the okay. And to top it off, I realized my camera battery was dead to boot.

Once....was shooting at 3d range...very casually stepped up took aim and bam sounded like 22 going off. Me and buddy just stared at it for at least 30 seconds. We checked it out....seemed ok so shot it with alot of pucker. It shot ok so finished round and then took it in and had it checked out and everything was fine.

I see alot of dry-fires. Most of the time bows are ok. Never draw a bow with out an arrow, that way if your fingers slip or hit release it won't blow up. Good Luck.

                It's the macho in us.
SuperSport came in my shop a couple years ago, and I think he pulled every bow in my shop with his fingers.
                Yes, there were signs.
I was a nervous wreck till he finally had them all pulled.

I never ever draw a bow without an arrow. I have a cheap arrow with a blunt point for drawing. There is a deep dent in my drywall from an accidental firing of that arrow. Better a small hole to fill in the wall than a bow to replace.

Did one time. In my defence the release broke at full draw.

Took it in today and everything checked out ok. The string just popped off and that was it.
