Never dry fired a newer compound, but had a steel cable break on one back in the 80's before fast flight cables and strings. Ive since switched to traditonal equipment but did have a hickory longbow snap in half at full draw. It sure will mess with your confidence when things like this happen. Im now more worried about a carbon arrow exploding upon release and sending a splintered shaft in my arm after viewing photos on the net awhile back.

I have, I was so focused on form and follow through that I forgot to load an arrow---- just nocked the string off....pro shop checked it over and I was hunting the next day with the bow

Cabelas can fix it for free if it was only the string that came off.

I agree. However, I can see how a dry fire can accidently happen. One time I was at full draw eying the target and my arrow just fell to the ground. The nock had been previously cracked. I was a slit second away from pulling the trigger on the release, which would have been a dry fire if pulled right when the arrow came loose. After that, I could see how it is possible to do on accident. That also reinforced me to inspect my arrows before each use.

Now to just draw back without an arrow to begin with, not sure on that one.

I have drawn mine and shot with arrow, knock must have been broken the bow tech said , it came off string during shot and had dry fire effect ,bent cams, so it can happen with arrow being shot

Saw a guy dry fire his bow 3 times in a row at an Archery shop on there indoor range. He thought it was OK to do so and didn't know any better... They live among us lol...

Aftermath of my 3D dry fire on Sunday. First one in 18 years of shooting a bow.
