That many snakes this early in the year means there's a denning site somewhere close by. check all of your outbuildings and any southwest facing hillsides near you. then do it again this fall, whever you find snakes gas them out of the den site after awhile you'll be rid of the resident snakes, as for those that wander in during the summer you might have to become a sunbird.

Crush up moth balls and throw them around the yard and under the house. That's what our pest control guy uses on jobs

I've always heard cats will keep them away but I don't think that's true. The reason I think that is because a buddy of mine has about 20 cats (maybe more) around his house and every year they find at least 2 or 3 in their yard.Last year his dog got bit on the nose by a small rattlesnake and he's had several other dogs get bitten in the past so I can't say dogs help much either. The only way I know of that would help keep snakes out of your yard is to make sure there aren't any places where mice or rats would live.If their food source isn't close to the house they shouldn't have much reason to go huntin around there. The only advantage to having cats aroudn would be to control the mice/rat population but as far as keeping snakse away I don't think they're much help. You still might find the occasional snake just passing through but since you've killed snakes before you'll know what to do if that happens.

My great grandparents always told me chickens were the best thing. Maybe because back then or where they were they didn't have guineas. But when we had chickens running around the yard we never had snakes.

i think your right about being close to a den. i talked to the neighbor last weekend and he said he’s never seen a rattlesnake on his 700+ acres the 2+ years he’s had it. he was really surprised to hear that i was having so much trouble with them.

i heard that they can’t stand malathon so i pick up a gallon and I’m going to spray it in and around all the barns and my house to see if anything comes out. might be too late in the year but maybe i can find the den.

I used to work with a guy from the swamps of La. where they had a bad problem with cotton mouths. He said they used crushed glass and lye or lime or something like that.

Moth balls work for cotton mouths and copper heads for sure.. you could try and see if they work for rattlers too.

I like the cat idea. Get rid of the food source for the snakes.

Also, pics or it didn't happen
