Who wants to hunt the Callaghan?

Leasehunter has a listing for a 9000 acre pasture @ 17,000 per spot.

Wonderful place, been there many times during the old shoot-out days. I wonder which pasture that is?

    Better play the lottery first...

Um, do more than "play" the lottery. Even then, that's absurd.

I know of a lease in South Tx with guaranteed 180"+ deer for less than that. And it's low fence as well and nearly double the size.

Just a guess of about 20?

That would be $40 per acre, about what the top places can ask.

Like I said though, just a guess.

That is a LOT of Dough$$$$

That's crazy. If they fill that lease I would suspect a few other land owners would start to raise their prices even more. Hell I can't afford half the lease prices already.

Not to call you liar, but I seriously doubt this. I would guess you are very mis-informed. Places like you described do not exsist, especially on a low fence ranch. Anytime someone guarantee's a buck (especially a 180) you need to be very weary.

I always love it when someone says that there place is covered up with 160 class bucks, those place are very few and far between. Plus the one's that actually are don't get on forums and brag about it.

TX624 you should know this, you've hunted one of the rare ones that does have lots of monsters low fence. I believe your searching for another LA G ranch, that place is special and not many of them around at all. Good luck on your search

Are you talking about a particular ranch in Maverick county? If its the same place I'm talking about than you are pretty much guaranteed a 175"+ each season

$17,000 is a ton for a lease, but there are a few ranches out there that are higher than that. Spots on the El Sauz and Kennedy ranches go for more. Although they are "better" deals because your alottment for game is alot higher. Plus you get alot of nilgai with each spot

                      Hey Mark

Who would guarantee a 180 buck for next season??? Maybe someone could promise a shot at one after they see what is happening after the summer(typical commercial hunt, not a lease). I'm not doubting there are some great ranches that grow 180's, but the low fence one's that do don't have to be looking for someone to buy a spot. JMHO

The place I'm talking about is "low fenced" but it does have high fence around it. I guess they have kept enough open to still make the book and be allowed to enter the low fence division at the deer contest. The ranch had a few spots open last season, I'm sure the price had something to do with it. You would think ranches like this would never have an open spot, because the hunting is so good. But honestly I guess who ever can pay $15k for a deer lease more than likely already owns their own ranch. Most people who are serious deer hunters and own a good ranch wont normally get on an expensive deer lease. They will buy package hunts instead. This place in Maverick county is a big ranch and is surrounded by other big, well managed places. If I got on this place I'd expect to shoot a 170+ this season.

Is that for a lifetime spot?

Folks like us that live and know South Texas would have opportunities on places like this, just because we "HEAR THINGS" ahahah you know what I mean. You know the dynamics of Leases of this ILK, they typically have some serious Hyarchy that will be first in line for the big buck then it tickles on down.
