Good luck with the hat build, I am sure it will come out awesome!
Several years ago my brother had a really nice hat made for me. Like some have said it is so nice I dont wear it as much as I should.
It is made by Jaxon Bilt Hats out of Salmon, Idaho. Once you decide you want a hat built they will send you a kit that measures your whole head to a T. You then mail that kit back to them and they begin building your hat. There are several price levels they build, not sure what my bro paid for mine but it's a good hat for sure!
Here is the link if anyone is interested. http://www.jaxonbilthats.com/index.html

Go with the highest x you can afford.......it will be well worth the money to have a hat that will last you a lifetime........I have 20x black felt and 10x silver belly that I bought within a couple of months of each other a long time ago and wear both of them about the same. I can be hard on hats and the 20x is in much better shape than the 10x.......both have been rung through the ringer......

It seems different hat makers have different standards for the X score.
As stated in the first post that hat makers 10x hat is made from Rabbit and the 20x is 50/50 beaver...
The place where I had my had made states that their 10x hats are 50/50 beaver.
Just a heads up to check the what the X rating means with each hat maker.

If they say they can re-block a 10x, then that's what I'd get for working. Otherwise, get the 20 and you'll save that extra $130 down the road from not having to buy another hat. The only problem with getting the 20 is that you'll know how much $$ is on your head and may not get as much wear out of it. I have one good hat and hardly ever wear it for that reason

Both are going on 18 years old and are still in great shape even though they've been through ringer and back.

$130 / 360 equals 36 cents a month for the upgrade.Last edited by jackh; 02-03-2011, 03:42 PM.

the black is a 6x beaver made by serratelli hat company, my everyday hat and favorite and the chocolate is a 20x grizzly made by the American hat company out ft worth, I love the beaver hair and I'm not sure what the grizzly is made out of. I would def recommend the beaver over rabbit, it feels better and holds its shape

Get the 20X and don't worry about it. Wear were ever and when ever you want. As mentioned they will hold up a lot better than a lesser hat and it will last for many years. I have one that is going on 20 years and has been reblocked and cleaned twice. It will be going for the 3rd time this spring.
