10X or 20X felt hat

im getting a custom hat made at catalena hatters in bryan. as of right now, they are making me a 10X but im thinking about changing my order to a 20X. for their hats, 10X is pure rabbit and 20X is 50/50 rabbit and beaver. there is a $130 difference between the two. i will wear this hat hunting and working at the ranch as well as out around here and drinkin beer with buddies. i want a low cost hat that i wont constantly be worried about messing up, but i want a good quality one that will last me a lifetime. what do yall think i should do?

I've got a 30X Resistol that I love but am afraid of messing up. Hunting and working, it's gonna eventually get banged up a bit. I would probably go 10X. It should still last you forever.

I wear my straw 10X Stetson on the ranch, yes, even in the fall I'll get a cheaper felt sometime.

I would go as high X as you can afford. The 50/50 20x would be a really nice hat. That hat should last a long long time. If it gets dirty just sponge it or brush it and you will be ret to go. Also the higher you go in beaver the more water resistant it is.

The one in my profile photo is a 4x Stetson Buffalo and I wear it hard. I wear that dam thing in rain, snow and sunshine. It is starting to show some wear and there are spots that have formed water spots. The more fur the better off you will be.

if i wear a pure rabbit hat in the rain is it going to lose its shape and be ruined? i know i shouldn't intentionally wear a felt hat in the rain a lot but a little rain never hurts a felt hat, ive always heard it helps it fit your head better

Go with a 20X . They will last longer, hold their shape and clean easily.

Something to consider is that most hat companys won't work or re-block any hat less than 20x. I am sending my felt off to get re-blocked to Resistol this spring.

Another place to look is The Hat Store in Houston. Their online at www.thehatstore.com and they will treat you right. I have purchased every hat I have owned as an adult fo twenty years from them.

If you're having the hat custom made I would go with the 20x. Back in the day I worked for a western store in their hat department. I have a 10x and 20x Stetson. Both are going on 18 years old and are still in great shape even though they've been through ringer and back.

What he said, I have a Resistol Black gold and the only place I wear it is dancing, dinner, and funerals.

I also have a Resistonl 5X that has litterally been run over. It has character and goes everywhere.
