This defines my coolers as well. I consider coolers as a consumable item.

The meat shortage sounds normal to me, they most likely started with 20#s green wt. and it ended up 15#s once complete...I would guess SOL on the cracked cooler

Is that the inside or the outside of the cooler? The pictures don't show and you don't say.
Unless you had pics before you took it in showing no damage, you don't have much to stand on, unfortunately.

The crack is on the inside.

I guess I'm to cheap/frugal to say a brand new $60 ice chest is disposable. I would understand if it had stayed outside in the elements, but it has been kept in a climate controlled storage.

I appreciate all the insight, and still plan to discuss it with the owner. I hope he is understanding, and willing to work it out to not loose a customer.

I will say that I will never leave a cooler again, and this is only till I have the time and space to get my own processing equipment.

          Epoxy will fix your cooler.

Another reason to the list of why I cut, grind, and put up my own meat!

X2!!! Will do it all next year. Just doing steaks/hamburger meat on my own this year. Doing it all is the best way to go if you have the time and equipment.

Sorry this happened to you. My processor broke my cooler and I pointed it out to him. He bought me a new one. The next year they broke that cooler. He bought me another new one. After that he must have talked to his workers because they haven't broke my cooler since.

I would make sure they gave me the meat that I paid for and would inquire further about the cooler.

I think your on your own on the cooler...
I bet they broke it but I also be they have something posted about not being responsible.

My place does the same, they pull the meat, spray the cooler with bleach water and hand it back. Plus they make the best meats in my opinion!

The last time I took a deer to a processor in a cooler was in Huntington and they kept the cooler. In fact, there were a whole bunch of coolers full of deer meat there. But that was a number of years ago. TallTexan, since you come all the way up to Nacogdoches next time bring your meat up to Butcher Boys and have them make you some summer sausage. Tell Billy how you want it and you won't be disappointed in how it turns out. I'm taking some meat to him tomorrow if I can remember to get it out of the freezer.

The place I used was in Lufkin, and I will refrain from putting the name out till I have the final results.

My 120qt cooler had a crack from me shoving a deer in there from years past and never fixed. Last weekend shoving the doe I shot in there I cracked it again. Never fixed any crack. I don't let deer meat stand in water as I keep the plug loose for drainage. I want my meat aged, not soaked... Just wash out good, get all water out (or most) and let dry.
I'll probably seal the cracks this time as I will be filling full of water and mudbugs for Bownanza!!
