    Meat processor vs ice chest....

Venting a little. I finally shot my only deer on the last Sunday of the regular season, and was thrilled not to get skunked. I decided to use a place in Lufkin, after trying some of the jalapeño cheese sausage my buddy had made. Plus my job territory runs all the way to Nacogdoches, so it was not a problem getting it to processor in Lufkin. To make a long story short, I picked up the meat, 5 lbs short on the smoked sausage BTW, today, and found a crack in the bottom of my Max 5 cooler. This was the first thing/deer ever to be put in my brand new cooler, so I bought it inside to show the workers. The only guy to speak to me said it had to be my fault. I have put many deer in a cooler, legs up, and never have had this issue. Has anyone else had this happen? I plan to ask for the price of the ice chest and the 5 lbs of meat missing to be subtracted from the final bill. Fair or not fair? What recourse could or would you take if the owner says " tough luck"?

did you leave the cooler with him ,,? i did , on that matter yes i would ask for him to replace the cooler ,, as far as the meat goes you will loose a little weight when you smoke and have sasage made !

    just my thoughts

I undersatnd meat loss, but I requested and was charged for 20 lbs. I got 15 lbs, and their was plenty of ground meat left to make the last 5 lbs.

I haven't dealt with processors very much but they will probably tell you to pound rocks. I have noticed that the coolers left at the processors are usually pretty busted up in the first place (lots of ducktape). Hopefully you at least get some bad arse sausage out of the deal.

Edit: Just to be clear I'm not suggesting that your cooler was already busted just judging from the ones I have seen in the past would suggest that processors in general are pretty rough on them.

Looks like someone dropped something frozen in it.

I guess that's why my processor told me to take mine with me. Good luck. Stay on 'em though. You should get what you pay for.

Why would you leave a cooler with them? I take my deer in a cooler and my processors take the deer/meat/parts out, rinse my cooler and hand it back. When I pick up the processed meat it is frozen and packed in cardboard boxes.
I think your on your own on the cooler...

That sucks atleast you didn't pay for deer and hog sausage and end up with deer and javilina. Went to make tacos and it stunk the whole house up. The dogs ate good though they got all the link and b-fast sausage.
