I have killed good sized mesquite on my place using Remedy and diesel mixture per TAMU. Spray it on the trunk and it kills it year round. The only problem is that Remedy is friggin' hi dollar!!! About $90/gallon.

CAT D9 does a good job when applied properly.

Depends on how many you have, cost effective way might be to doze or grub it out.

If you are hell-bent on spraying it remedy and diesel basal treatment or cut stump treatment will work. works anytime of the year but best when it is hot and dry and soil is pulled away from crown of tree.

Wait for it to green up and have mature foilage and then spray RECLAIM, it is expensive but it is MESQUITE specific and was developed to kill mesquite.

If you plan on cooking with it I'd pass on using a chemical.

I used some about 20 years ago. It leaves a big dead spot for a long time after it is applied, if the brush you are killing is in grass.
I only bought one gallon of that stuff and that was it.
                  I don't like it.

What size of mesquite are you looking to kill??????? Some older bigger trees are harder to kill by spraying with out taking off bark around bottom of trunk. Like BK said girdle it with an ax if it is a large tree about a foot above the ground. Take off outside bark and first half inch into tree all the way around.....I drill it and put rock salt into it with severl hole around tree........cheaper than chemicals none used on pit of meat you will be eating..............Andy

40 lb bag of salt you get for water softeners. Sprinkle around the drip line of the tree. This might also attract wildlife too with a "salt-lick".

if you have a 3/4"-1" drill bit and drill. drill from 3-4" up from the base of the trunk down in a 45degree angle down into the root and base all the way around the tree. fill all the holes with salt (h20 softener salt is fine) and then using a sprayer spray each hole with diesel. you want each hole at least 8"-12" deep especialy if the tree is over a 9" caliber tree

Take a cordless drill, and a wood bit, drill 90 degrees 2 inches above the ground, making sure you hit thr HEART of the tree...it will kill it and it will stand till you cut it.

Just take a chain saw and ring it. Don't spray it if you are looking to use it for cooking or firewood
