    Hand Me Downs

    Two Fold Thread...

    First.........

What is the oldest gun yall have? I like stories with a history.

Mine is a 1987 7mm Mag that my dad bought new for mule hunting in west texas. Gun has shot many animals... He had to get the barrell floated because it was getting hot and the stock didnt allow it to expand so he got it floated and glassed.

He gave it to me last June randomly.. It was that one gun that I wanted since I was a kid. Its in amazing shape for the age of it and the many places it has gone. Now its all mine (Ill post a picture after work)

    Second.....

What do yall do with old ammo? He use to reload for this gun and I have about a case of ammo that is old. The tips are dinged up and just doesnt look like it needs to be shot. I dont want something blowing up on me.

Im going to "A Place to Shoot" tomorrow and am going to talk to them about that too.. Unless yall have something better

i think unless its noticeable damaged and mostly concerned about the case and seating of the bullet I'll shoot it.

I have some old stuff in my safe. I shot some .223 recently that was probably 10 years old and i'm candidly not thinking that is old at all.

Grandpa gave me an ancient model 700 remington 243. He tells me its 70-80 years old. The rifle has alot of history to it. Every member of our family has taken their first deer with it. I just recently let my girlfriend and soon to hopefully be wife take her first deer with it as well.

2nd favorite is the same grandpa gave me a Colt 1911A1 service pistol. thing is in mint condition and will stay that way for as long as i own it.

I have a single barrel .410 that belonged to my great grandmother that was made in 1904. I have another .410, a double barrel, that was made in 1916 that belonged to Great Great Uncle. Last but not least, I have an old JC Higgins model 20 12 guage that my Grandfather left me from 1956.

Ive got my dads Winchester 1894 30-30 that his dad bought him over 50 yrs ago when he turned 16.

Killed my first deer with it at 14 and still carry it with me every time I go to the ranch. just feels right!!!

I have a 16guage that my papaw gave me two years ago before he passed away. He used the gun to feed my grandmother, my dad, and my dads brother as they grew up. The story he told me was grandma had went to sears each week and paid a dollar for the gun she had on lay-a-way. When papaw came home from world war II she had finished paying for the shotgun and gave it to him. He hunted quail, dove, rabbits, and other stuff that moved with it to feed his family. I have never shot the gun but do intend to try and hunt with it once before I leave the earth and see him again in heaven..... to GOD be the glory

I have a 1957 Winchester lever action 30-30 that has never been shot. I don't think it ever will as long as I own it.
