    Why do you bow hunt?

I know this has been probably asked before, but why? I hunt with some older fellas and opening day I am still at it with the bow. They think I am crazy but it is a totally different challenge. After you kill enough with a gun it just takes the fun out of it. Had buddy that told me he would never bow hunt. I converted him last year and he hasnt picked up a gun since. Just wondering.

I bow hunt for an escape from the rat race.

Rifle hunting is not an option, my lease is bow only.

Bow hunting is such a challenge. I am a lot like you, its just more of a sport to try and get em in to bow range without being smelled, seen, etc. Havent picked up a gun in 3 years. Theres nothing like bow hunting!

I ask myself that question a lot. Its easy to go bow hunting, but it sure is hard as heck to get the deer in range. I do it for the challenge, the shakes, the excitement.... ohh and for food.

Same reason as you. I killed my biggest buck with a gun 4 years ago and it took me an hour to shoot it cause I really didn't want to shoot it cause there wasn't a challenge. After that I picked a bow and haven't looked back since.

It links you back to the time when that was all they had to hunt with. A more rewarding experience that gives you a sense of fullfillment you just can't get with a gun. That's why I do it.

Feel the same way as most of you guys, the challenge.... I went 14 years bow only, then my wife and daughter wanted to start hunting so I started them gun hunting... I did shoot a monster Sika buck with a rifle a couple years ago while having my daughter in the stand for youth weekend and afterwards I realized why I bow hunt (we had been trying to get this guy off the lease for over a year and this is the first time he had shown himself, so I took the shot)....

Sense of accomplishment, plain and simple!!!! I felt as if I had let myself down shooting that buck with a rifle, also feel as if it is not as significant of a trophy b/c I shot it with a rifle, granted he is an awesome animal that may very well be in the running for a top Sika in the State... I guess that stems from years of strictly bowhunting, either way, I still wish he had given me the opportunity on different terms, like with a bow in my hands...

I hunted years ago and killed two doe. I didnt think it was all that great, so I have it up.

I was looking at it again a couple years back. While taking my hunters safety course they had me shoot a bow before the second day started...I've been hooked since. I have picked up the rifle to hunt hogs at night, but that is it.

Since then I have shot 3 deer, turkey and a number of hogs with my bow. It is just awesome to fool an animal who lives off instinct and get them so close to you.

I have been invites on a hunt later this month in South TX that will require me to harvest as many hogs as possible. My payment will be a buck of my choice if one presents itself. I am torn because I feel obligated to use the rifle for the hogs.

I think I have become a bow snob...

bow hunting is real, your there in the elements in the high grass, mud, muck ...camoflauge from head to toe, scented down hardcore , and being quite waiting for the shot, its really hunting and the only type of hunting IMO....

anyone can gun hunt, not everyone can bow hunt.

Good. I am glad I am not the only crazy one out here.

I started huntin cuz I wanted a head start on huntin season. No one on our lease bowhunted. So opening weekend was always a mad house. I figured if I got out there a month b4 everyone else, my chances at a big buck would increase. Well, now, after 8 years, there are 9 guys on our lease that bowhunt. (12 members total)

But now, bowhunting is more about the challenge and being close. To me, huntin with a rifle is just killin, not hunting.
