    I was asked..."What is a redneck".

One of my employees is from Pakistan and we are traveling together on business, and he asked me today...."What is a redneck, and are you considered one".

I explained Jeff Foxworthy's interpretation, and how Jeff has made the word "redneck" into a euphemism for "backwoods dumb*****", but I felt that I fell short on my explanation of what being a redneck really means to me.

It caused me to pause, thus I ask...."what is your interpretation of a redneck, and I want to know if you think that being called a redneck is a bad thing??"

BTW...I call "home" some land in N.E. Texas. Does small town living constitute being a redneck?

If you've ever used duct tape to fix a leak in your radiator hose...

If you've ever used bailing wire to hold your tailpipe from dragging the ground...

If you've ever walked outside and shot supper in your yard...

If you've ever hot-wired your own car...

If you've ever rebuilt a transmission in your living room and your old lady never gave it a second thought...

It's a "state of mind". Kinda like "it's a Texas thang".
              For me...hardcore country.

no, small town living does not constitute being a redneck in my book...

I am not offended to be called a redneck or hillbilly. I am. dont deny it. look at my SN that is obvious.

Rednecks are those that will create something out of what they have laying around to save money on buying something new. We will have dirty trucks, and a dont give a darn type attitude about what you think... We will have a good time and make whatever we need to work with some duck tape and zip ties. We enjoy fishing/shooting guns/getting our trucks dirty, and our necks turn red because what we enjoy keeps us outdoors.

Its alright to be a redneck. Its alright to rid around in a dirty old truck. Catch a couple fish and shoot a big buck.

                  Funny story about this topic...

My cousin in maine (dads side) went to deer camp for a week, and instead of hunting played cards and drank beer the whole time. Well, as the season wrapped up most everyone had a deer strapped to their hood but him. So he went out, and saw a squirrel and shot it, and strapped it to his trucks hood and drove around town. That is redneck!

I would say Redneck is a general definition, most Rednecks are white people, not all white people are rednecks. The rest of this conversation is not suitable for this forum, I'll just say unless you consider yourself a Redneck it is not safe to refer to someone else as Redneck.

Also, if your neighbors come over to see you boning (stop it with the dirty thoughts too fellas) your deer in the driveway and were amazed, your are a redneck living in a neighborhood full of city folks. After the first couple of years however, they just bring beer over and join in on the festivities.

It took my neighbors a little while to get used to us but now they love all the excitement that my "redneck" family brings to our street. Fish cleaning, deer cleaning, broken down Scout in the garage, boys pulling down there drawers and pissin' in the front yard, lifted truck with loud exhaust and most importantly, Lonestar Light Tall Boys.... all things they were missing out on.

I define a redneck as a person who works hard and loves the the outdoors where their neck tends to get red from the sun. Whether our neck gets red from work or play it doesn't matter. It is a mark of pride. We tend to have common sense, cling to our Bibles and our guns. You get the picture.
