I define a redneck as a person who works hard and loves the the outdoors where their neck tends to get red from the sun. Whether our neck gets red from work or play it doesn't matter. It is a mark of pride. We tend to have common sense, cling to our Bibles and our guns. You get the picture.
Well, I refer to myself as a redneck. Out of our circle of friends that my wife and I have, I think they would all agree. Nothing wrong with it. If you use wal-mart sacks as luggage (which we do), you might be a ...............
believe as you will... but its true...your tbh name has roots in a miners union in west virgina
Redneck has always symbolized farmers who worked the fields and often had sunburned or "red" necks. It has been used as a denigration against the people that have to work with their hands for a living. The term was used as far back as the late 19th century. Yes, it was used for miners too, but the term is older than the 1920s emphasis.
This is a funny topic. I've been told multiple times that I'm the only Mexican redneck people have ever met!
On a side note I have a buddy who was born country and raised country and he seems to think the term "Redneck" is bad. He really takes offense when somebody refers to him as a redneck so I tell him that often. He's a welder so he's got the red neck and he's country as could be so if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck I just call it as is!
I myself have a farmers tan, and my neck is red from the sun. Do wear a bandana around my neck to keep the sun off my neck area. Im just a hard working country boy, out in the elements most of the day, people refer to me as a redneck/or a farm boy due to the farmers tan...everyone is different ...but the term redneck is not bad.some of us are very educated....
I'm from a small town (bout 2700 people), and my girlfriend is from Houston, not to mention many of my other friends from Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, etc., so I've been called redneck, farm boy, hick, etc. I don't take offense to any of it and actually embrace it. I'm proud to be from the country, doesn't mean that I'm any less of a person. And as far as education goes, I'm a chemical engineering student at the University of Texas, so I'd say I'm doing ok. Being a "redneck" just gives me the common sense to go along with it.
