I think a Redneck might be someone with a huge 4 wheel drive truck with deer antlers and a gun rack mounted on the the brush guard, blood stains in the bed of it more often than not.
Someone whose friend's know where to go if they need some help.
Someone that still hold's doors open for others.
Someone that can still remember the words to the Marine Corp hymm that he learned in the first grade.
Someone that has several pairs of beat up old dirty boots for working hunting and playing. One pair of nice one's for weddings , funerals and Saturday night out with the "OLD LADY"
Someone that takes his hat off and holds it over his heart when old glory passes by. Someone that sheds a tear now and again for the Men and Women overseas that are protecting us.
Someone that enjoys a cold beer after a hard day's work or just because it' taste good.
Someone that will defend the little guy just because he can.
The list could go on. But I think you guys can see what I mean.
Me, I'm proud to be an American, a Native Texan and a REDNECK !

I read every reply......I got to the hotel, changed from my slacks and dress shirt, into my camoflauge cargo shorts, Gander Mountain T-shirt, and a BPS camo hat, walked down to the bar and said to my Pakistan co-worker..... "Minhas, my mama and daddy named me Lenny Wayne W., I love Texas, I love my country, I love cold beer, I love to see blood from a fresh kill pouring out of the bed of my pickup truck- yes sir, I am definately a redneck."

The word redneck is used by some to try and offend. The reality is that rednecks are great people and they come from down south as well as up north. They are not afraid to roll their sleeves up and do the hard work that most won't or can't. They are not afraid to speak the truth and they won't sugar coat it. They are the backbone of this country and they are the epitomy of what being an American is all about. They are kind and good people that are givers. They will help their neighbor out when in need and give you the shirt off of their back. They will stand up for those that can't as though they are kin. They defend this country, they shoot guns, they love the outdoors. They love life and cherish it.
I don't understand why anyone would be offended by being called a redneck. Embrace it and be proud.

I'm proud to be from the country, doesn't mean that I'm any less of a person. And as far as education goes, I'm a chemical engineering student at the University of Texas, so I'd say I'm doing ok. Being a "redneck" just gives me the common sense to go along with it.
              Very well said my friend...

Well I've always considered myself a country boy, not necessarily a redneck. I'm from Sweetwater and I have a college degree, I'm an insurance agent. However my wife is from San Marcos and her mother sure thinks I'm a redneck. So who knows.

I do get offended if or when someone calls me a redneck. It's like they're trying to use one word to call me an ignorant, white trash country bumpkin. I don't appreciate it at all. A British acquaintance ask me if I thought George Bush Jr. was a redneck and I told him probably not. I never saw an old car up on blocks on the White House lawn.

My wife and daughter call me a swiss-redneck all the time, and it is nothing but a compliment to me.
I grew up in the country (different continent though), still miss it, and hope i can go back living in the country, but have to make a living in the city.

I am not offended to be called a redneck or hillbilly. I am. dont deny it. look at my SN that is obvious.

Rednecks are those that will create something out of what they have laying around to save money on buying something new. We will have dirty trucks, and a dont give a darn type attitude about what you think... We will have a good time and make whatever we need to work with some duck tape and zip ties. We enjoy fishing/shooting guns/getting our trucks dirty, and our necks turn red because what we enjoy keeps us outdoors.

Its alright to be a redneck. Its alright to rid around in a dirty old truck. Catch a couple fish and shoot a big buck.

                          Funny story about this topic...

My cousin in maine (dads side) went to deer camp for a week, and instead of hunting played cards and drank beer the whole time. Well, as the season wrapped up most everyone had a deer strapped to their hood but him. So he went out, and saw a squirrel and shot it, and strapped it to his trucks hood and drove around town. That is redneck!
                          This is a perfect example

A redneck is in the eyes of the beholder. Many people have many different beliefs as to what a redneck is.
To me a redneck is a true country person who loves to hunt, fish, grow a garden and can fix anything with duct tape or bailing wire. So in that aspect I consider myself a redneck. I am a college degreed engineer but grew up redneck poor and still proud of my heritage.
To some libs I work with a redneck means racist.
Kinda like the N word. I dont use that word often but when I do it does not apply to the race of a person, but to the way a person is.
Take it all with a grain of salt, cause that is what these words are worth. We all have our own meaning for them.
