Day or night? Cicada would only be during the day. Katydid would primarily be at night. From your description of the "chirping," I'm thinking Katydids.

If you are in the valley, it is probably a Rio Grande Chirping frog. They prefer moist conditions. Their chirp is very loud for a small frog. The frog is maybe 1" long at the most. They can also be in other parts of the state, because they can live in potted plants and be moved easily. I have heard them in Houston and San Antonio.
