My all time favorite was at the old B&B saleyard in Mercedes. Big old greasy burger, and thick fries. We used to go in there every weekend for the sale and lunch was a must. I remember one time it was especially packed and my two cousins and me sat at our own table. We thought we were pretty cool when Homer Ferguson, one of the big cattle buyers that was at the sale every weekend asked us if he could share the table. He sat there over lunch and told us stories and talked to us like we were just one of the boys. I STILL crave those burgers and that was probably over 20 years ago now.

Now, just about any DQ in a small town will do. I never find myself ordering burgers outside of fast food joints much.

My Dad will be 87 years old June 2nd, or as he says, June 2th(tooth). and he still makes the best hamburgers in Texas, right out there on his grill! That's in Dacus, Texas.

Back in college it was Mad Dog and Beans (R.I.P.) just off the drag in Austin

Dirtys was good too but I can't vouch for them since the 80's.

I like Kellers here in Dallas.

Well I have not had one myself but I have been told that Mel's in Tomball has one of the best. They have one that has 1.5 pounds of Beef, 1 pound of Bacon and 1 pound of cheese on it. If you eat it all you get the next one free. I may have to check that out when I get skinny

Nicky D's in Crowley (not McDonalds). Owners are fine people, and burgers are awesome.

You got that right...I haven't found ANYTHING at Hondos that isn't top notch.

And for San Antonio I second Chris Madrids. The flaming jalapeno with cheddar rocks.
