Buy the cheapest call you can get at first, primos makes a pretty user friendly call wench I believe it is called. I have better luck calling once as the birds pass and look like they might not see the spread just to catch their attention and then just shut up, too much calling just flares them any way. At least down here, by the time they make it here they've heard it all.

You're kidding, right? If the call is free I guess he won't be out any money, but are you suggesting that the average duck hunter should file on the toneboard if he's unhappy with his tone? That's a great way to ruin a duck call.

Why wouldn't you just put a reed and cork in, then trim it down until it sounds like you want it? Not saying your method of cutting from the back is wrong, I just never have seen anyone do it that way and it seems like you're doubling the work.

As far as the wa-wa hand, I'm referring to the way many newbies pick up a call for the first time and immediately start flapping their hand. I'm sure you've seen it....

Junior World's Championship Duck Calling Contest ... 1983 Troy Broussard, Port Arthur, Texas.

Just a little back up for you: http://www.stuttgartduckcall.com/ind...lling_contest/

Oh and here is another friend of mine as well: Junior World's Championship Duck Calling Contest ... 1958 Ronald Stepan, Port Arthur, Texas http://www.stuttgartduckcall.com/ind...lling_contest/

Now how about instead of telling me how to do things how about you give some useful info to the young man that wants to learn how to call ducks. Better than that how about you step up and give him a call and your contact number so he can call you and you can walk him through custon tuning tips one on one like I did.

Oh, haha....I wasn't thinking back far enough. I didn't even know Barnett was making Keechi's back then.

Look, I want everyone to understand I'm not "telling you how to do things." Also, hats off for sending the guy a duck call....stand up move there.

My "argument" was just based on the fact that some of the advice you were giving is a little unorthodox.

Well, nothing unorthadox about what I am telling him to do. He will not be fooling with the bore but he will not mess up the tone board as I talk him through it a five year old could do it. Trimming the reeds is touchy but he will have an extra set.

I told him to call me anytime he wanted to and I would offer any guidence I could. The best way to learn to blow a call is practice and listen to ducks and try to mimick them as best you can. I find myself in the yard talking back and forth to my ducks quite often and it really helps.

dual reed (forgot which one) and a duck commander mallard drake grunt call...
