I went duck hunting for the first time this year and liked it. I have never bought a duck call or even blown into one. Was wondering what the duck hunters on here would recommend as good calls to start out with. I was thinking of some of the duck commander calls.

Well heres my opinion, a duck is going to come in if he wants to no matter how good or how bad the call sounds. As far as calls go I have blown, Haydells, Cut Down, Sure Shot, PS Olt and a few other cheaper calls and it shows in the tuneability. On the other end of the spectrum I have had Big Guys Best, Wing Lock, Zink, Sean Mann, Foiles, and Rich-N-Tone and you can tell a big difference in the quality and tone of these call over the previously mentioned calls.
I am a firm believer in buying a higher dollar call for two reasons, first the higher dollar calls are made here in the USA and secondly the higher end calls are far more tuneable than your cheaper mass produced outsourced calls.
I personally prefer a Rich-N-Tone and own several of them. And the thing about the wife is very true I drove my wife nuts but she grew up in a duck hunting family so it wasn't quite as bad as some of my buddies. The one thing I caught the most flak about was all the money I spent in the search of tuneability and sound quality. Hope that helps you out good luck and stay hard at it it will come in time.
