I work on stihll saws pretty much daily and I never have any problems with rebuilds not running like new ...I am in the rental side of things and I know exactly what your going through bubba..... generaly what I find is that if someone runs a two stroke for a long period of time with just gas it burns a hole in the piston and tears the cylinder wall up but if it wasn't too long u might just be able to drain and refill ............

Yes sir! My buddy ran close to a full tank of raw gas through it. Piston looks like toast from the exhaust port. I'm going to tear it down on Wednesday and put the new cylinder and piston in it.

I didn't! My plan is to try to re-use the bearings, seals and gaskets if I can. The only gaskets that I can tell it has is the exhaust and carb boot. I'm hoping the bearings and bearing seals are still in good shape.

NO NO NO NO NO! Please No! Two strokes must have a perfect seal throughout the crankcase. If you don't one of two things will happen 1) it runs like crap and you wasted all that time and money 2) it runs lean from sucking air and destroys another cylinder and piston and you wasted all that time and money.

Just replace the gaskets and seals, do this and you pretty much have a new saw. Trust me its not worth it. (I worked on these things for many years before swapping careers)

Thanks for the advise. I will pick up new seals at the local stihl dealer. They should have them right?

At the house I have 2 cans one labeled 2-cycle gas/Mixed gas (chinsaw, weed-eatter only!) the other says LAWN MOWER ONLY STUPID!!!!! So far no mix ups. I like to keep my labels clear and simple.

It shouldn't be a problem anymore! I have learned my lesson.

Well I got it apart and all cleaned up! Tomorrow after work I will put it back together and fire it up.

Oh and don't be jealous of my work bench

Please be careful around the hot water heater! If it's not electric, you may go boom! Pilot lights and fumes are not a good mix for a quick and dirty haircut (Experience talking here!)

I knew someone was going to mention that! Saw has been empty for a couple of years. Thanks for being concerned.

Whats the best sealant to use on the cylinder pan? This design does not use a gasket. Just sealant. I have permatex ultra blue, but I don't think it is compatible with gas.

I too, use the Permatex Ultra Blue. That dosent mean there's not a better one, it just what I've always used.

That bench is Ok, as long as somebody don't come by looking for something for supper.
