Blowing smoke. Quick question and I know it wasn't in the equation, but have you looked at an ugly Savage. I broke down and bought one in .243 and it is a tack driver. I'm looking at ads in the parking lot and Sports Authority has one, I wouldn't buy from them they are like CC (high) but with scope it is 449.99. Accutrigger is great....Of course I'm selling mi e to buy a new bow because I get bored rifle hunting nowadays.
Just my.02....Good luck on whatever you get.

The regular synthetic Vanguard has a manufacturers set price at $399. It should be the same price no matter where you buy it. There is no difference in the models sold to Academy vs. the gun store. Don't pay more than that. They are great guns especially for that price. They do have upgraded models that have better stocks and other upgrades that will cost more.

I've seen the ADL is a wood or synthetic...and I believe it was replaced by the SPS with floor plate
That being said, if I was going to make a "lifetime purchase", I'd spend a little more than I wanted to if it meant getting what I want. Nothing like a lifetime saying, man I wish I would have spent another $100 or $200. I would be purchasing a gun with a breast plate for ease of shell removal for gunsafe storage and safety. I am a fan of synthetic stocks in hunting firearms except O/Us and most definitely it would be in a .270.....But that's just me and my personal preferences.
Don't rule out the Savage either....not so pretty but accurate as hail...Last edited by Smart; 12-06-2009, 11:11 AM.

Do they both have the same trigger?
My SPS is the varmint and had the X-pro trigger, I thought all the SPS's went to it, but I don't see mention of it on Remingtons website.
FWIW, they don't mention an ADL that I can find.
I wonder if they made the ADL's for Academy?
I've ordered from Buds before & will again, but the price listed is their "cash price" if you pay with a card you get hit with 3% more. Mail a check and you get the cash price.

Unless the gun is a "store" gun then they are the same. Big box stores and big distributors can get guns made for them. If that is the case then there is a possibility that some cheaper parts are used, but they will also have a slightly different model name than a gun at a different store. As far as carters being high, I bought my Pro Hunter there week before thanksgivning and they had the best price of anyone including buds(whom I am a big fan). If buying for life, I would personally buy a higher end 700 (CDL) or even a mark V weatherby, Browning A bolt or similar.
