We are talking 3.25 inch groups at 1000 yds (and he has the targets to prove it), type custom guns. The design he uses is based on the Remington 700 action.

Shoot me his info please, 3.25 @ 1000 is pretty darn good. I would like to see his work. Does he have a website?

Blowing smoke. Quick question and I know it wasn't in the equation, but have you looked at an ugly Savage. I broke down and bought one in .243 and it is a tack driver. I'm looking at ads in the parking lot and Sports Authority has one, I wouldn't buy from them they are like CC (high) but with scope it is 449.99. Accutrigger is great....Of course I'm selling mi e to buy a new bow because I get bored rifle hunting nowadays.

Just my.02....Good luck on whatever you get.

The regular synthetic Vanguard has a manufacturers set price at $399. It should be the same price no matter where you buy it. There is no difference in the models sold to Academy vs. the gun store. Don't pay more than that. They are great guns especially for that price. They do have upgraded models that have better stocks and other upgrades that will cost more.

The only difference between the Remington 700 SPS and the ADL, is the SPS has the hinged floor plate and the ADL does not. Other than that, they are identical. I have a Remington SPS and an ADL and they are identical except for the floor plate.

Actually the CDL is a walnut stock with a matte blue barrel finish...

I've seen the ADL is a wood or synthetic...and I believe it was replaced by the SPS with floor plate

That being said, if I was going to make a "lifetime purchase", I'd spend a little more than I wanted to if it meant getting what I want. Nothing like a lifetime saying, man I wish I would have spent another $100 or $200. I would be purchasing a gun with a breast plate for ease of shell removal for gunsafe storage and safety. I am a fan of synthetic stocks in hunting firearms except O/Us and most definitely it would be in a .270.....But that's just me and my personal preferences.

Don't rule out the Savage either....not so pretty but accurate as hail...

There is no difference in quality, just the price. I have the remington 700BDL in .308 cal. and it shoots great. I bought it 31 years ago at CC, because back then Academy only sold tennis shoes, rackets and maybe some fishing gear. Also the 700 BDL has an adjustable trigger.

I wouldn't personally do business with Carters country when buying a firearm. They are grossly overpriced every time I've shopped. If the model of the gun is the same there is no dang difference in the least.

There's not a manufacturer in business these days that can make Academy adhere to a "set" price!! No way!!

This.....and check out www.budsgunshop.com as well...super prices including shipping and they have a local FFL list that is long and already on file. All you need to do it call them and they'll help you set it up. I have purchased three guns from them and haven't found anybody could touch their prices. Add in NO TAX and my FFL transfer being $10 and it was a helluva deal....

Looks like the new ADL's have a different stock (SPS looking w/out floorplate)than my ~7 yo ADL does.

Do they both have the same trigger?

My SPS is the varmint and had the X-pro trigger, I thought all the SPS's went to it, but I don't see mention of it on Remingtons website.

FWIW, they don't mention an ADL that I can find.
I wonder if they made the ADL's for Academy?

I've ordered from Buds before & will again, but the price listed is their "cash price" if you pay with a card you get hit with 3% more. Mail a check and you get the cash price.

I agree with the rest of them. The only time I have seen a model different at one store then another is when they have a dealers exclusive, usually found at Cabelas.

Unless the gun is a "store" gun then they are the same. Big box stores and big distributors can get guns made for them. If that is the case then there is a possibility that some cheaper parts are used, but they will also have a slightly different model name than a gun at a different store. As far as carters being high, I bought my Pro Hunter there week before thanksgivning and they had the best price of anyone including buds(whom I am a big fan). If buying for life, I would personally buy a higher end 700 (CDL) or even a mark V weatherby, Browning A bolt or similar.

I had a guy at an archery shop tell me the same thing one time. They dealt the same brand and model that I was asking them to check out for me. He asked where I bought it and then told me that it was the same quality since it came from BPS.
