i love the slick, the pentration on those things is incredible. last time i was shoot my broadheads, had one go through my target, throught the fense boards, and through a 3/4 piece of plywood. and both wholes through the fense and wood had the complete 4 blade shape. cant wait to see what its gonna do to some rib cages

I appreciate all the input. I have shot a lot of deer with my muzzy 3 blade and have never had a problem but decided to give mechanicals a try. I won't use the 3 blade Rage anymore but I do have some 2 blade ones to try. One of my buddies shot a doe with one and it shredded the opposite side shoulder. I'm looking forward to giving them a try.

Everyone will have a horror story about a broadhead and have a story about how much they like another. I have had problems with muzzy heads. I will never use one again.Last edited by MA ELite; 11-07-2009, 07:05 PM.

I tried the three blade Rage when they came out and was really disappointed with the consistency of their penetration on hogs- especially hogs over about 125lbs. Sometimes they penetrated well and other times they didn't. Can't say any if them failed to open, though. Then I tried the 2-blades and I've never had any more issues with penetration- even got pass-throughs on some BIG hogs.
I'm a big opponent of mechanical broadheads because of their failure rates and the potential for problems- anything that has moving parts can and WILL fail at some time. In fact, we don't allow ANY mechanicals to be used on deer at the ranch I work for and guide for. However, the one exception I make is with the Rage 2-blade because of it's design it's MORE likely to open properly and it's proven (to me) to be the MOST reliable/effective mechanical broadhead on the market. And, when you see two holes in an animal that are AT LEAST 2" wide (and often even wider) it's hard to argue with the blood trail and killing power.
Another thing we've noticed over the years is that many of the hunters that come to the ranch that favor mechanicals try and take SIGNIFICANTLY longer shots than hunters who fixed blade broadheads. This is because they buy into the "flies like a field point" advertising. The result has been significantly worse shot placement- this may be due to deer having more time to react and duck or spin. But, regardless the reason, the end result has been more wounded deer and a lower recovery rate with mechanical broadheads. So, the policy of "no mechanicals" was put into effect and stays in effect. The Rage 2-blade is a great broadhead and I keep one on an arrow in my quiver for everything but deer; but, for that big buck I stick with a fixed blade! My personal preference is a Magnus Stinger but have always used Muzzys too! One thing to keep in mind is that if you want to hunt out of a pop up with shoot through netting- like I will when the weather is really bad (like tgevrain we're having in Sabinal right now!!)- you can't shoot a mechanical through shoot-through netting!!
Just my $00.02

It would be interesting to find out if the people who like the Rage are shooting compound or trad.
On Traditional Bowhunter forum , they have the Dr Ed Ashby reports , where he thas tested mechanicals vs, non mech. its interesting.
Im ordering some Zwickey Eskimos , I am shooting a 45# trad. Im hoping they are a good choice.
I wonder if the Rage work best with compounds w/ higher poundages
