Good luck man, I think you will find him but with tall grass like you're saying I know it's gonna be like finding a needle in a haystack. If you can't get a dog I think maybe doing a grid search with a couple more people would be the next best option

Man - that is a nice axis. I would have shot at it for sure.
You have my best wishes - I hope you find him.

If you can take a look at your hunting spot on google maps, it may help to give you an idea of the path / direction it may take.

Also, being that its tall grass, think a drone could help? Just throwing it out there.

Just got back. Covered every square inch inside 300 yards. Used ATV's to help see in the tall grass. I really thought the shot was good. I have no idea where he went. I wanted that one bad! He was dead calm and still pulled a Matrix move on the shot. Thanks for all the encouragement today. It really sucks to lose one. Those big axis bucks are so much harder to kill than whitetails. 0-2 on the young season. Gonna have to order more Landsharks. My Jack Russell tried but she didn't have much to go on. It amazes me how much more difficult trad is than compounds. I will go look again tomorrow. Maybe the buzzards will help me.

yeah id look for any nearby creeks you have access too tomorrow, or any buzzards flying in circles for sure, I found a pig like that 2 years ago I shot a little behind, searched all day and found him when I found some active buzzards around the area I killed him

With the lighted nock, maybe you can take a quick peak right after dark. Ya never know. Anyhow, don't get too down on yourself, it happens to all of us at some point.
