OK, Peanut added some photos. The one of Howard and David applying the burlap with wall paper paste shows how part of the process went. After it was completed and dried the painting began.

Peanut, were you able to get any of the photos of the actual shoot?

Except for the clothes and hairdos, not much looks different out there then, than now!

I bet Butch was wearing those same overalls way back then too!

Peanut, I just showed the photos to Liz. She got a real kick out of them, particularly the one of you!

                          Thanks for posting those!

Great story on your beginnings. Next May,2016, we will host our 30th Annual Stick Bow Round Up in Chester TX. First two years the shoot was held in Orangefield TX. The landowner came in and clear cut the range. We were able to move the shoot to Camp TaKuLa in Chester and have been there since. Our first targets were Stanley Hipps.

You guys will notice there are compounds being used as this shoot was open to both traditional and compounds. There were very few traditional shooters back then. The big differences in the compounds are that the let off back then was only 30% and the cams were small round wheels. I don't remember if there was a different class for traditional shooters or if they had to compete heads up with the compound shooters. I can remember shooting in some broadhead shoots in New Mexico back then and us traditional shooters had to shoot heads up with the compound shooters. I shot recurves and got in a shoot off with a compound shooter and beat him, but that was 30 years ago.
