I smack my arm occasionally when shooting my longbow but not with my recurve. It must be the difference in grip because brace height is about the same. I have a leather armguard but it gets hot in the summer. I bought one of those small plastic ones like target guys use - much more comfortable when it's hot.

This is pretty much my stance on them as well. I wear one regardless. Better safe than sorry

i dont really need one but ALWAYS wear one. kida goofy but my arm guard has been all over the state and has been worn during all my bow kills. it has seen alot of country.

one good thing it is good for is to keep large coat sleeves out of the way on cold days.

I never wear one unless I have a large coat on. If you position your feet correctly you will never hit your arm. The only other time you will get hit is if a long bow is braced too low or perhaps using a dacron string that follows through. It will slap your wrist.

What Bisch said. I would only add that having two different types in your rucksack isn't a bad idea - one for short, and one for long sleeves. I always liked the expandable fabric type for a quick-pullover attachment. But some long sleeve shirts billow too much for that. A longer one with multiple fastening points is then preferable.

Never when I shoot my compound but I do with my recurve I picked up. Dunno why but it pops me up close to my watch band so I picked up a leather arm guard from American Leathers. Its nice but I have to agree with a previous post... sucker gets hot.

Have you tried Don Gonzales Saddlery? They are located in Bryan off of HWY 21

I use a cheap $5 arm guard I got either at Walmart or Academy. It works just fine.
