    need some arrow help

Just like that, I get a call for a PAC Elephant hunt mid April.
I will have to use my 83# Iron wood bow. No time to have one made heavier.
My problem is my arrow weight.
My buffalo hunts I used a carbon express 350 shaft with a beamon flash shft inserted inside. 100 grain brass insert with a 200 grain head to end up with a arrow that weighs 900 grains.
I really want to heavy this up to around 1162 (14 grains per pound)
Any body have any ideals how to get there?
I need a shaft that will fit into the hearitage shaft that weighs 14 grains per inch

I think it will be a problem to find a weight tube to fit inside of what he has now, but don't know for sure. The smalles weight tube size is for 5/16" shafts and he already has a shaft inside a shaft.

I have heard of people using weedeater line and sand to add weight to their arrows?

I've been working on a way to get more weight up front to weaken some shafts, and maintain good FOC. This doesn't get you all the way there but close. I drilled and tapped the back of a 100gr brass insert and screwed in a 3" long 8-32 brass screw(head was cut off). 3"= ~100gr. Don't know why you couldn't go 6-8 inches to get your additional 262gr your looking for. Thats assuming it will slide inside the Beaman flash shaft which I believe it would. This would help maintain FOC, versus spreading it out over the full length. If you want to go down this route I'd be more than happy to help. Good luck on your hunt!

            Marty,

I don't have the numbers, but they say there is a deminishing return past the 10 grains per inch. Are you going to gain that much in penetration? If you don't find a way to do what you are wanting....I believe your Cape Buff set up will work just as good. Best of luck in any case

BTW, Grainger has the 8-32 brass all thread in 24" lengths.

                Marty,

What about the Easton Full Metal Jacket Dangerous Game 250's. they are 17.2 GPI. With a 100 grain insert, 200 grain heads and an 8 GPI weight tube for a 31" arrow is 1063 grains. I have a set of weight tubes that fit the FMJ's (8GPI) that I can send you if you choose this route.

Have you thought about going the other way with it, and sticking your current buff arrow inside an aluminum shaft (like a 2216)?

I just weighed a 7595 GT trad shaft full length, and a 2216 shaft full length.

                      GT Trad - 360gr
                      2216 - 382gr
                      Total - 742gr

                      Add 100gr insert - 842gr
                      Add 200gr head - 1042gr
                      Add fletching, wrap & nock - 1079gr

If your current arrow were slipped into a 2216 full length it would weigh - 1282gr
Subtract the weight for whatever length you have them cut down to, and you're going to be real close to where you want to be.

What Rick said was going to be second suggestion.

Alaskan bowhunter supply safari sticks with a weight tube would work.

Yep. I second the grizzly stik safaris. I have a set of the Alaskans and they are some awesome shafts

If you shot a SOLID 6013 aluminum rod, 1/4" diameter, 32" long, it would weigh 1076 grains.

Alaska Bowhunter supply has a Elephant arrow that weighs 1260 with a 350 grain Ashby head.
They are sending me 2 to bare shaft and see if they will fly from my bow ok.
I'm worried they will be too stiff. If they are too weak it would work out better as I can drop back to my 200 grain GK head and stiffen them up while still being 1110 grains
