Im sure a lot of vanes will work fine but I don't see anyone getting blazers to shoot without a bunch of building up the shelf. At a certain threshold if you are "modifying" the shelf I wouldn't say that you are really shooing off the shelf anymore.

I can shoot any vane or feather design there is (with exception to some flu flu), and have no contact whatsoever. That includes blazers & quick spins.

Rick the cresting job on those arrows matching the bow like that is freaking awesome. In my mind though I would say that you aren't shooting off the shelf since you kind of made a rest out of dowel rod. Im betting that its still considered the shelf at 3d shoots but its not what I traditionally think of as shooting off the shelf. As far as Im concerned you did more than just tune the bow as soon as you started adding material to the shelf.
In any case we are pretty much just arguing semantics. If you are able to shoot any kind of vanes you want I can see how that would be really nice. I might even have to work on something like that if it doesn't stop raining in East Texas pretty soon!

Thanks Kurt.
Yea, we'll just have to agree to disagree on the shelf thing. 8^)
As far as the vanes & wet weather are concerned - I never really had a problem with wet feathers, and getting them to shoot ok. The main reason I switched to vanes for good was I got tired of having to refletch every time I zip an animal, especially stinkin hogs. With the vanes, I just wash them off, touch up the broadhead, and stick em back in the quiver for next time.
