Thanks guys. I hope to be flinging some arrows tonight. I remember something about needing to stretch the string a little before adding a nock. Is this true?

Put a nocking point on it and shoot it. You'll just have to adjust it as the string stretches.

Flung my first arrows today. Groupings were not bad when I was consistent with my form, but I was about a foot-foot and a half high at 10 yards. My last two shots (last round) were within 2 inches of each other.

We'll see how I do tomorrow.

Good thread. I am thinking about ordering the same bow. I also have a 31" draw. So did you order a 40# ? Is that a good place to start with a longer draw?

I actually like the lure of a long bow , should I start with a long bow or recurve?
Also a question for you guru's I just had surgery for a retinal detatchment . I am worried my vision in my dominant eye won't be so great in the future. Is this a deal breaker for me with traditional ?

A 40# @ 28" bow will be about 49# at 31". Also, if your DL is 31" with your compound, it will probably be an inch or two shorter with a stickbow.....at least at first. Zero percent letoff is a new thing you will have to learn to master. Whether you start with longbow or recurve is all personal preference. I can't tell how your eye is going to do with no sights but there are lots of guys who shoot opposite handed than they are eye dominant. It is probably easier to get if your eye dominance matches your hand but not a deal breaker.

I ended up with the 40#. I have not checked what it actually is at my draw.

You should also check what the bow is at 28". I have heard and read that some of the Samiks are actually a little heavier than they are marked. What it is at your draw is the important number though.

If you get ready for a heavier higher end custom bow I have a beautiful Sarrels 64" 46@28 for sale in the classifieds.

Guess I will be waiting a while everyone seems to be out of 40# limbs.

I shoot righty but am left eye dominant. In a pinch I can switch and am decent out to 20 yards, wrong handed. The Samick has a proven record and should not disappoint. Welcome to the fun side of archery and remember to start close and work your way back.

Few weeks in I figured I'd update. I am trying to shoot as often as I can but it seems to only be every two days or so. This was my last group today at 10 yards. The two outliers I even know what I did!

Right: Did not come fully to my anchor and released early.

Left: My arm went nuts and I couldn't stabilize and released anyway.

Sorry it is dark, the night was sneaking up on me.

Are you happy you started with the 40lb limbs ? Would you recommend lighter at our draw length ?

                                Perfect starter bow! Excellent choice.
