Funny about them worms. The live tree in my backyard has never had any kind of worm or bug get on it or the fruit.
Maybe ya'll got different kinda bugs down there in Spicewood.

What a beautiful bow. How is it compared to osage? are those osage staves you had dry enough yet? Still wanting you to build me a self bow. Thanks Durk.

Yes Durk they are dry now all I need is some time. I have a regular job right now thank you Jesus and very little time. Hunting season will be over soon and I will get back at it. Should have a couple more built in March. I think I have 1 lefthander and a couple right handers right now.

Yep, a wild persimmon that I picked fruit from when I was a kid, about 55 years ago. It was about 12" in diameter. Persimmon grows slow and that may be the reason the wood so dense. I think any persimmon that is 8" or bigger would be OK for getting staves. Of course it need to be straight as possible.

The bark also needs to run straight up and down on the log or you will have a propeller when it is split. Makes a pretty good bow though. Moisture needs to be 7-9% at finished state to. This is Arvin.
