TBOT classifies sinew and skin backed bows as selfbows. A composite is an all wood bow with no fiberglass or carbon

I was just told about the TBoT and saw they classify composites as wood backed as well. I'm just trying to get an understanding because I've always known them from other groups I associate with as backed bows, selfbows, then composites/laminates. Where do you guys include sinew and rawhide backed bows in that classification? Don't mean to highjack the thread, just a quick clarification.
This all started a few years back when guys started showing up at 3D shoots and entering the selfbow class with all wood laminated longbows. The real selfbow guys were getting mad because they felt that the laminated (although all wood) bows were not really selfbows. I have seen guys argue this to the point of nearly getting in a fist fight over it! TBoT, TSLBC, and a few other clubs and organizations tried to solve this by creating a class for each group. The selfbows are one piece of wood and can have linen, sinew, or snakeskin as backing. Any all wood bow that is backed with wood or bamboo, or any all wood laminated bow would fit in the composite bow class.

Thanks fellas. Thinking about joining that. Been building for a while, now starting to get serious with shooting.

Bubba is the wood combo ideas what you're looking for? I haven't messed with many myself except for a couple board bow combos like red oak and hickory when I first got started. But I do have an experiment I need to get back on which is Peruvian walnut backed with hickory. I can't find much about the compression or tension characteristics, or even anyone who's ever done peruvian, so my expectations are very low. But it's a beautiful color combo.

I saw one a while ago that was boo backed osage(maybe??) with a little charring color around the nodes. Gave it a really cool effect.

Sorry I don't have any pics of anything finished.

I think one is on the site. If not I will get after Zach in the mornin and make sure it is. We will use bamboo backed Ipe or bamboo backed osage. Dont know that one is better than the other except for the color. The one I shoot is Ipe and it is a screamer. Got a 40 pounder on the wall that shoots like a 45 lb bow.

Not much hand shock at all. They are fast if properly tillered I know that. I am going to buy a few to finish and sell.
