You will need to hit them in the right place, as their skin is thicker than most other stuff we shoot and they are tough. And they are very spooky, if you get one, I think you have done something. I hunted for them about 20 times before I got one. I never saw one down at Laugna. Not that I am an expert or anything, just done a lot of trying.

Thats awesome chunky.. Do you think my 51# with a silver flame will be good enough for one or should i get some 58-60 pound limbs..

I have talked to a few guys that have seen 15-20 a day at LA.. What unit did you hunt and not see any??

I do think it will be hard as crap tho to get one in my longbow range

I have been on one nilgai hunt on the King Ranch. There were 3 shot the weekend I was there. 2 by compound and one by recurve. The only one recovered was the one shot with a recurve. They are very cool looking critters (and BIG too).

I had two within about 60yds and thought they were going to come right to me. They veered off on an intersecting trail at about 50 yards and I watched them walk off into the sunset, unharmed by me.

I think you will be OK with 51#. Shot placement is everything though. I also think their vitals are just a tad bit more forward than on a whitetail.

I have only seen nilgai one time.. That was also on the king ranch when i was like 12.. Me and dad went down there when 4 arrow outfitters was still around.. That is why i really want one. It was my first archery hunt ever.. I shot a javi and i was hooked.. my dad had 5 bulls at 15 yards and went to shoot and his release was broken.. He tried to draw with his fingers and the arrow wouldnt stay on the rest. he is going with me and going to take his crossbow if he can get a doctor note.. He has a torn rotator cuff and cant pull his compound

I only hunted down there once and I don't know what unit it was. I know that it rained a lot before we got there and the hunters were kind of concentrated. I counted over a hundred trucks parked along the road on the way in.

I saw over a dozen other guys, three whitetail does (running together), and the biggest rattlesnake I have ever seen. After a couple of days of that, I went across the bridge and ate shrimp, drank Coronas, and watched the boats come and go for the last day.

I am sure there are good areas, I just have no clue how to help you.....but best of luck and let us know how it goes. I wouldn't buy new limbs just for this, but if you were looking to get some anyway, it surely wouldn't hurt.

I hunted at 4-arrows 16 or 18 times while they were operating. Killed javies, hogs, and a pile of turkeys.....but never could get an arrow in a nilgai there. That was a cool operation while it lasted.

Wyatt Birkner shot 2 in 3 days on the King Ranch back in the mid nineties. Both with a #55 Palmer recurve, AFC 2400 carbon arrows and 145 gr Journeyman broadheads!
