I never rounded the tip, and never bent one.
By the way I was shooting them from a 96# recurve on a 605gr arrow that was traveling way over 200 fps, so I would say they were being put to the test pretty good.

Well I have shot one critter with a Zephyr from a 50# bow with a 520gr arrow going way less than 200ft/sec and DID bend the tip. Not only did I bend the tip but I also broke the screw in adaptor that was in the BH. That was enough for me.

LOL - Bad Luck maybe ?

Seriously though. They are a proven tried & true broadhead, but just like anything else man made there has to be a lemon now and then.

I ask Fred Bear why he rounded his heads on a shoot in Clinton Indiana back in 1977 when I had the privilege of shooting with him, he said "he felt instead of breaking the bone it would slide around it" it you didn't hit it square, sounded good to me.

Seem like I remember a magazine article or something from back in the early 60's about rounding the tip off.. could have been by Fred Bear... don”t remember, but I been doing it about that long even on the BH's I used on compounds..

I'm betting I ain't the only one doing it neither...

Jerp look at the the 3 rivers website at sirroco screw in heads, read reviews. The one from txlongbow is me. I cant say they would never curl, But 4 deer, 2 pigs, 1 turkey and 1 feeder leg. and only 1 failure, and it wasnt the tip.

They don't get any better than these.

Jerp, if you go with the VPA, Advantage-Archery didn't charge me shipping. http://www.advantage-archery.com/2-B...adheads_c7.htm

I noticed on the back of the package that they recommend filing the tip from the factory made sharp point to a more rounded "spade" shape. Is this commonly done with cut on contact heads? Is it to prevent tip-curl when impacting bone? Is using a file the best way to accomplish this?
Have you shot them yet? I have some Zephyr Tempest heads and I don't like that they whistle in flight.
